Baseball Betting - Philadelphia Phillies Wins 10th Straight

Baseball Betting - Philadelphia Phillies Wins 10th Straight by Jockson

Charlie Manuel recalled a quiet Phillies dugout in the innings leading to Jayson Werth’s 13th inning at-bat Tuesday.
It wasn’t nerves. It was a building sense of anticipation.

Who was going to do it?

Who was going to win this thing?

It turned out to be Werth, who hit a three-run home run to left field to beat the Cubs at Citizens Bank Park, 4-1. The Phillies have won 10 straight games, their longest winning streak since they won 13 in a row in 1991, as they maintained their 6 1/2-game lead over the Braves in the National League East.

“I still don’t think we’re clicking on all cylinders just yet,” Werth said. “We’re a second-half club and down the stretch is when we play our best. We just need to keep setting the table for September. I think you’ll see our best baseball in September and October.”

This current stretch is tough to beat. The Phillies have won 14 of their past 15 games since they lost to the Braves on July 2. They lead the Majors with 95 runs and a 2.15 ERA in that span. The club’s starters are 10-0 with a 2.34 ERA. Opponents have hit just .206 against them. The bullpen is 4-1 with six saves, nine holds and a 1.77 ERA. Opponents have hit just .179 against Philadelphia’s relief corps.

They showed that great pitching Tuesday.

Phillies right-hander Joe Blanton made his first official start following the All-Star break. He started Saturday against the Marlins, but that game got postponed in the second inning because of rain.

By virtue of a 4-1 win over the Chicago Cubs, the Philadelphia Phillies are currently in the middle of a 10-game winning streak. For more, check out Baseball Betting at SPORTSBETTING.COM

Top 10 MLB Trade Candidates

Top 10 MLB Trade Candidates by Bet Online

As Affliction betting just showed us when the Fedor/Barnett fight was axed 10 days before its scheduled date, anything can happen in sports. We must expect the unexpected and the same principle applies to the July 31 MLB trade deadline. Who are the top 10 candidates to be dealt?
10. Jose Guillen, outfielder, Kansas City Royals

The Royals aren’t happy with his play, and neither is he - he’s “embarrassed” by his performance relative to his salary. As bad as Guillen has been, he still has some pop and could help a power-starved contender like San Francisco.

9. Chad Qualls, relief pitcher, Arizona Diamondbacks

He’s drawing interest according to MLB betting fans, but what’s the fuss all about? He’s blown a save every month this season and his 3.63 ERA isn’t great for a closer.

8. Scott Rolen, third baseman, Toronto Blue Jays

He’s not the power hitter he once was, but he still plays superb defense and has gap power. Maybe the Cards would take him back? Someone could use him.

7. George Sherrill, relief pitcher, Baltimore Orioles

He’s unproven in clutch situations but he’s tough to hit. I’d bet on him going in my MLB predictions, not necessarily to close, but perhaps to be a setup man.

6. Adam Dunn, outfielder, Washington Nationals

About a dozen teams could use his power bat - the Tigers come to mind - but Nationals GM Mike Rizzo said he isn’t trading Dunn. Do you believe him?

5. Adrian Gonzalez, first baseman, San Diego Padres

If he was more likely to get dealt, he’d be higher on the list, but teams will need bigtime offers to pry him from San Diego’s hands. He’s one of the game’s best all around players, with great power and excellent defense, and any team would be lucky to have him. Atlanta would make sense if they’d part with Tommy Hanson, but I doubt it.

4. Cliff Lee, starting pitcher, Cleveland Indians

You’ve probably heard this one before - “the Roy Halladay consolation prize.” In some ways, the lefty Lee is in fact a poor man’s Roy Halladay. He too has great control and the ability to go deep in games, so I’m betting management in Cleveland fields lots of offers for him next week.

3. Victor Martinez, catcher, Cleveland Indians

Martinez’s future is cloudy; he’s still young enough to be worth retaining, but he’d bring a nice return wherever he goes. The Red Sox were interested a while back and would probably part with Clay Buchholz to land V-Mart.

2. Matt Holliday, outfielder, Oakland Athletics

Perhaps the most likely big name to be dealt, Holliday went from underrated to overrated this season. However, he’s still a big, youngish, multi-talented player who can help a good team in the middle of the order. All accounts suggest St. Louis is the front runner and you have to think hitting behind Albert Pujols would do wonders for Holliday.

1. Roy Halladay, starting pitcher, Toronto Blue Jays

Think the rumor mill is churning out of control now? Wait another week. He’s the best pitcher in the game according to players, managers, scouts and GMs, so he’ll command a huge return. The Jays’ asking price is astronomical but sports predictions followers shouldn’t be shocked if a team steps up and sells its soul to get Doc. He’s so good that he’s worth virtually anything another team gives up to get him.

The Proper Grip for a Curveball

The Proper Grip for a Curveball by Nate Barnett

Over the course of history, the curveball has been a major part of many pitchers bag of pitches. While this is a greatly necessary pitch, it does require that you understand basic pitching mechanics to avoid injury and incorrect throwing of this pitch.
In order to grip a curveball correctly, you’ll need to put your index and ring finger on the opposite seam as your thumb. The end result is that your index finger and thumb have split the baseball in half. It is also important to place some light to medium pressure on your thumb and middle fingers. Your index finger with this grip should remain lightly rested on the baseball.

If you are just learning the curveball grip, one technique is to slightly raise your index finger off of the baseball to insure that you do not apply any pressure with it. If too much pressure is placed on the baseball you’ll end up getting poor rotation and throw the ball sharply into the dirt.

Now that you have a basic understanding of how to throw a curveball, it’s important that you do not throw this pitch too much until you have proper pitching mechanics intact. First, if you have poor pitching mechanics, you’ll end up tipping the batter off that you are throwing a curveball and not a fastball. Secondly, with a lack of understanding you may vary your arm speed with a curveball as opposed to a fastball. This is a big no no. The only thing that changes is your wrist and forearm angles. Do not snap your wrist upon release of a curveball, instead, let the ball roll off the index finger. The will work efficiently if the outer side of your hand is facing the hitting at release.

Young pitchers need to be monitored closely as to how many curveballs are thrown each game. Coaches and parents should make sure that their athletes throw no more than 15%-20% curveballs. If your young pitcher begins to have some early success with the curveball, he may tend to want to throw the pitch more. For the sake of his arm, prevent this from happening by regulating his curveball pitch count.

Essential Big Carp Bait Tips To Improve Readymade And Homemade Baits!

Essential Big Carp Bait Tips To Improve Readymade And Homemade Baits! by Tim Richardson

Is this you? Too carp anglers are in the same boat in that they cannot afford to buy the very most top quality HNV readymade baits in the volumes that they really need to compete on many big fish waters! Most of us have been or are now in this situation so here are just a few tips that will set you free of this problem for good, save you a fortune and catch you many more big fish!
Many carp anglers have a highly developed brand loyalty which companies actually strive to foster and develop to the degree that you might even feel guilty if considering changing brands! There is nothing wrong with brand loyalty because successful fishing is all about fishing confidently. However there are incredible catch-boosting benefits in using products from different bait companies in regards to your bait performance especially!

The unique combined effects of unique combinations of potent ingredients and additives never experienced before by carp improves your catches and even allows you to develop your own unique methods, rigs, baiting practices and strategies that will put you ahead of most other anglers who are generally stuck in a rut of conventional thinking!

Over the past 3 decades in my carp fishing I have gone through many phases of bait testing and as a result have quite a knowledge of what to combine with what differently in order to achieve many more potent competitive edges over both the fish and in many situations over fellow anglers to seriously improve my results.

Examples are many including the following! I remember applying very many kilograms of Hinders tiny high betaine Elipse pellets and crushed tiger nuts soaked in intense Talin and Thaumatin sweetener and tiger extracts and oils to catch the biggest carp and catfish from one Essex water with a leather carp to 46 pounds and a catfish of 68 pounds. You might like to try out crushed Mainline readymade baits like Active 8 mixed with other of their baits such as Fusion and Cell soaked in betaine HCL, Protaste sweetener and Nash Squid extract. A 1 foot long rig with small double pop-up baits straight off the lead is a well proven edge of mine for catfish. Nash Whiskey liquid is a useful additive I have mixed with PPC type amino complexes to great effect for big carp and when targeting big catfish too with homemade ground baits and boilies.

Dynamite Baits Halibut pellets soaked in Richworth liquid yeast with added Honey Yucatan and Tutti Fruitti combined with pure salmon oil plus some varied gustatory stimulants and digestive enhancers from a variety of companies has really done well for me. How many angler have tried pure maple syrup and Ccmoore Feedstim XP in the Mainline Grange CSL bait base mix for instance?! (Give this unique tip a try; perhaps as crushed homemade boilie baits and pastes in your PVA bags for instance!)

You might like to try out a homemade bait that will be very different, perhaps the new Mainline Cell base mix with added Tackle Box Ming Oil for instance with added Ccmoore blue cheese powder and garlic concentrate for instance.

Willis Worms have an outstanding Robin Red substitute that some major UK bait companies now include in their readymade baits. Because its great price I can absolutely pack it into my ground baits to awesome effect along with other of their very competitively-priced products including their worm extracts, squid andronone and CP70 fish protein for example, plus some of their custom liquid protein complexes.

I have been using products from Newfields Baits for a while and their green lipped mussel extract is simply amazing. I cannot choose between this and the high-impact de-fatted green-lipped mussel extract from Ccmoore!

I have used a very special combination of high grade hydrolysed salmon protein, with a high PC liquid lecithin and premium grade Scottish salmon oil, in a variety of baits and application. These products are all very economical yet have been incredibly effective over this last spring and summer and even in winter in the cold substituting the salmon oil for betaine HCL! All these particular additives have come from a leading premium carp and koi pellet supplier and unique bait ingredients supplier called CW Baits and Carpfishingpellets (as found online.) Phil the company boss tells me he is presently looking for bait testers for a uniquely refined HNV bait; so why not contact Carpfishingpellets right now!

I have done very well mixing together ingredients from all kinds of companies to stretch my bait money further and improve my results. I have been making my own homemade baits since I started carp fishing in 1977. In the present economic climate more and more thinking carp anglers are getting into homemade bait making in order to save a fortune on readymade baits - and who can blame them?! My unique ebooks on carp bait secrets have very quickly brought far more carp anglers into the league of highly successful anglers who can compete with readymade baits using their own unique homemade baits. Obviously I am very proud of this fact because it helps bait companies exploit a return to an already previously proven established trend and helps angler get more big fish on a budget they can more easily afford today!

I used to use very many products from Rod Hutchinson and I absolutely trust all his products as he has been designing and refining incredibly successful baits since before probably 90 percent of UK carp anglers today were born! Who has not heard of Scopex for instance? A great tip is trying his Mulberry Florentine in hook baits or his nutritional Maple Steep Liquor supplement and flavour in very elevated levels in your free baits. I can tell you that Mike Willmot Essential Baits Natural Squid is a genuine winner and by adding cork dust to his and other readymade pastes will give you the ability to produce instant critically-balanced baits that will act as though they are boilies that have been in the water and are breaking down - just like wary carp like them!

Of course pellets are very important in the bait arsenal today. Combining pellets for specific purposes not just to stimulate carp feeding and pull them into your swim, but to get them to actually make more mistakes on your baits in a very potent edge. I know from long personal experience of catching wary fish that fishing over bait that is fully broken down can be the breakthrough edge required. You might wish to fish bloodworm pellet which are so popular toady, but boosted with Ccmoore bloodworm extract and Red Venom liquid or Feedstim XP or Odyssey XXX liquid.

Personally I find the buoyant behaviour of Ccmoore Milkimin pellets an incredible edge for more wary fish and I recently hooked the biggest fish in one smaller Kent lake at 35 pounds. The point is that this was actually on the first day of fishing and incorporating these in various forms in my homemade PVA bag mixes, homemade boilies and pastes! Just another thought is I recall really hammering the fish at Dream Lake One in France on Squid and krill extract ground baits with blast-frozen bloodworm in my PVA bag mix. Real blood worm goes a long way despite its cost when used exactly how and where it is best applied and I believe it is often superior to so many of the processed ready prepared bloodworm baits and additives available. (You might like to try it mixed with the new Nutrabaits bait called G-Force in crushed bloodworm extract-soaked form in PVA products etc.)

I have often used Nutrabaits Addits to enhance and further predigest my homemade ground bait and boilies and pellets to make them perform fantastically well but I do use much cheaper products plus special methods to further break down my baits even more favourably. This type of preparation stretches the short and long-term effects of my homemade base mixes much further! I often bulk them up with much cheaper ingredients to save on cost and these additves and ingredients are broken down into much more attractive soluble and very digestible compounds such as organic acids and fermenting sugars - among other goodies!

Another example everyone can consider is when I used certain homemade bioactive compound special edges to hook the biggest fish in Rainbow lake; when this fish was at 84 pounds back in around 2006. Spice and herb oleoresins and various other essential oil components (plus complete essential oils in combination) were included in the preparation of my homemade baits for that extremely highly pressured big fish water. Special homemade boosted particles and ground baits preparations plus homemade boilies and boosted readymade pellets were used in this instance. All this sounds like a lot of preparation but it always seriously pays off to make the extra effort at any water where people are well known to blank on and where your goal is to tempt the biggest wary fish!

The amount of competitive edges you can produce for yourself to get around what I call carp danger reference points conditioned into carp by past and present popular carp fishing bait forms, and baiting and fishing practices are legion (but you need to be thinking differently and use your imagination! Ultimately you are never taking a risk in being different with bait because everything is priceless feedback and anything that might seem like a mistake is actually a solution to crack a different fishing problem - 99 percent of the time!

I make my baits with a big focus on protein and amino acids stimulation although I do not always design baits for the long-term and instant baits by definition can be both long and short-term for many reason. With top quality protein additives and ingredients can be very hard to cut costs but it is possible with enough knowledge of bait and you do not always have to group together to reduce personal costs or to get bargains in bulk. It is a fact that high levels of the most potent substances in just your hook baits are often all you need to achieve your goals, and creative uses of cheaper but potently-boosted pellets and creatively-boosted particles as free baits are very often successful in guerrilla-type fishing approaches!

But certainly not all of the most impactful protein-related feeding triggers fall into the bracket of complex amino acids and other amines, and certain natural feeding triggers can be very cheap indeed! In fact you can make extremely competitive baits with no fish protein, no milk protein and no sign of conventional expensive readymade amino acid complexes at all, because with the right bait-making know-how you can make them all for yourself (including making homemade flavours, flavour components and unique flavour-infused oils too!) You might think that knowing more about fish senses in regards to exploiting them with bait substances is not really needed today with the amount of commercial quality bait available now. But I can assure you that if saving a fortune in your bait costs (literally for life,) improving your catches, and staying ahead of the fish and competing anglers are your goals, then this fish senses and bait substances exploitation (of all fish senses) knowledge combined, is a huge advantage!

This is something few anglers will never understand nor appreciate the true power of because so many will simply be lazy and ignore it so offering you a huge gaping area to exploit in order to always stay ahead! Tennis Skills Needed to Win

Tennis Skills Needed to Win by Matt Robison

Tennis is a game that requires a lot of certain skills. Some of these skills are ones that you may have picked up in other sports, though some skills are solely picked up through playing tennis. There are generally five skills that will help you in becoming the most successful tennis player you can be.
First and foremost, your ball judgment must be excellent. It is best to pick up this skill before you finish your teenage hood, or else it is very hard to pick up. You need to have a sense of where the ball is going to go, and where you must hit. If you can do this, tennis will be very enjoyable. If not, playing tennis can be a pain and you will find yourself wanting to quit very quickly.

Next, balance is very important for a tennis player. Most humans have a good degree of balancing skills. Think back to how many times you have lost your balance accidentally and still recovered. In tennis, you are moving quickly, coming to sudden stops, and then moving again. Balance is important or you will find yourself on the floor in no time. Nonetheless, if your balance skills are not up to par, they will improve as you play more and more tennis.

Hand-eye coordination, needless to say, is important in tennis. When the ball is coming to you, it is your hand-eye coordination that will determine how you hit the ball. Similarly to ball judgment, hand-eye coordination is a skill that children will learn much faster than adults. There are players who have natural hand-eye coordination, and then there are those who need to practice excessively to master it.

Footwork is right up there with any of the other skills mentioned. You must be able to differentiate between different stances, or else you will find your shots and returns not as you want them. Many people get on the court and just hit the ball like no tomorrow, not even considering their stance. This is a big no-no, and your stance will make all the difference in your game.

Lastly, and most obviously, is concentration. Tennis is a game of concentration. If you cannot concentrate, tennis is not the game for you. The game of tennis requires extreme concentration, or else you will find yourself losing game after game. It is a game of back and forth, and with no concentration, you will make big mistakes on the court.

The Motive wakeboard offered in the Kids Unite Series is very affordable and is designed solely to enable kids to learn wakeboarding. This board is perfect for children who are participating in wakeboarding for the first time.

The appearance, patterns and colors used to paint the wakeboard play a major role in its ‘coolness’ quotient. Male wakeboarding enthusiasts often express themselves through loud colors and brash designs. However, the same is not true for women. They love those boards that help them connect with their feminine side in a predominantly male sport. That is the reason why Hyperlite wakeboards designed specifically for women come in bright vibrant colors like pink combined with white or black. These boards contain simple and minimalist patterns that look great when the individual is performing wakeboarding stunts. Women centric wakeboards are available for beginners, intermediate stage participants and experts.

The basic board is perfect for those who are participating in wakeboarding for the first time. The intermediate boards introduces the female participant to three stage rockers and is designed to accommodate the balancing errors that often take place when the individual performs tricks and stunts for the first time. Hyperlite wakeboards for women experts are no different from those for male experts as far as quality and design of the boards are concerned. The boards for experts include molded fins, cupped rails and thinner profile. All this enables the wakeboarding enthusiast to participate and compete with the best without having to worry about the wakeboard. You can opt for the standard Hyperlite wakeboards for beginners and experts if you are not keen on feminine designs. Looking for longer golf drives? Just relax!

Looking for longer golf drives? Just relax! by David Carr

To get longer distance in golf, most golfers end up trying too hard. The key thing that golfers need to focus on is staying relaxed. Being relaxed throughout your swing has more potential to create more torque during your club swing. When a golfer is stiff during their golf swing, they lose that required flexibility to create that snap in the swing to generate more power, which results in longer distance in their golf game.
Its the idea of having effortless power in your golf swing. Most people try too hard. This leads to multiple mistakes and decreases the chance of getting that longer distance in golf. When you are calm and relaxed, your swing has much more time to generate power from more muscles in your body. Most of the power generated in a golf swing comes from the core muscles in your weight shift, not your arms!

Another way to help you relax your golf swing is to have a proper warm up. Most people just get up on the first tee and just let loose. This is an easy way of getting injured. People step up to tee and swing so hard that they pull a muscle.

One simple stretch that I use on a regular basis involves taking my driver, or any other club, and placing it over my shoulders like i am leaning on a rope. Then I take that form and go through my golf swing. This helps loosen the muscles in the back and shoulders which allows for more flexibility in the swing. This flexibility is key for longer distance in a golf swing.

Too many people are worried about trying so hard to get that longer distance in golf. Just relax! Just focus on having a good rhythm and smooth weight shift. These two simple things can help you focus on your swing and will result in longer distance in golf.

Longer distance in golf is simple. That is what you must be thinking about when you step up to that next shot. Don’t stress on this! The more you stress, the more likely you will be looking for that mulligan.

MLB Weekly Capsule

MLB Weekly Capsule by Matt Gerwitz

MLB Weekly Capsule
5/3-5/9/2009

Author: Matt Gerwitz http://www.BaseballDailyNews.com, U. S. Sports Media, Inc

ST. PETERSBURG (5/3) - The Boston Red Sox can’t seem to find a way to stop their division rivals from Tampa Bay, and Sunday afternoon it was the Rays’ LF Carl Crawford that hurt them. Crawford was a masterful thief reaching base on all five at-bats, then stealing six bases with an effort that made it look easy. His accomplishment makes him the MLB leader with 17 stolen bases, and only the fourth player in the modern era to steal six in a single game. Eddie Collins did it twice for the Philadelphia Athletics in 1912, Otis Nixon stole six in 1991, and Eric Young in did it 1996. For the game, the Rays stole a club record eight bases en route to a 5-3 win at Tropicana Field.

CINCINNATI (5/6) - Cincinnati shortstop Paul Janish was called upon Wednesday night to do something he hasn’t done since college: take the pitcher’s mound. Entering the ninth inning, the Reds were down 10-3 en route to a 15-3 loss, and manager Dusty Baker was blowing through an already exhausted bullpen. Having played a fourteen inning contest against Florida on Monday, the team was faced with a seven day stretch in front of them. Not wanting to tax any more of his relievers, Baker brought Janish to the mound to pitch the ninth. He allowed five hits and five runs, including a homer by Prince Fielder, walked none and struck out two. Janish was the first player position to pitch for the Reds since Lenny Harris in 1998.

LOS ANGELES (5/7) - The L.A. Dodgers are off to a red-hot start including 13 straight home wins, but they’ll have to keep things going without LF Manny Ramirez in the lineup. The City of Angels was rocked today with the news that Ramirez has been suspended for 50 games under the MLB’s drug testing policy. The 50 game suspensions are handed out for a first offense, meaning Ramirez had not previously failed a test for banned substances. Currently batting .348 with six home runs and 20 RBIs, the Dodgers’ most popular player begins his suspension immediately and won’t return to the field until sometime in July. Jaun Pierre is expected to replace Ramirez in left field.

BALTIMORE (5/8) - New York Yankees fans have been waiting since early March for the return of Alex Rodriguez, all the while wondering if he would still be the same player. Between his March hip surgery, new allegations of steroid use, and personal problems at home, questions about A-Rod’s readiness to play abounded. He answered those questions on his very first pitch Friday night against Orioles’ right-hander Jeremy Guthrie. He turned a fastball in the high 90s into a three-run homer in the first, leading the way to the Yank’s 4-0 win. Though A-Rod went 0 for 3 the rest of the night, the early home run set the tone for the rest of the game. CC Sabathia did his part from the mound throwing a complete game that included just four hits, one walk, and eight strikeouts.

MILWAUKEE (5/9) - Chicago Cubs pitcher Chad Fox was called up from Iowa on Wednesday and given a spot in the bullpen, only to leave Saturday’s game with pain in his throwing elbow. The veteran right-hander has struggled with injury since being part of the Marlins’ 2003 Championship team. Last year he was sidelined with ulnar neuritis after only three plate appearances. Fox was placed on the 15 day DL and will seek the opinion of several doctors and specialists. He has not ruled out ending his pro career.

MLB Futures: 2009 NL Rookie Of The Year Odds

MLB Futures: 2009 NL Rookie Of The Year Odds by Bet Online

The baseball season is well underway, and even though the weather hasn’t warmed up fully quite yet, some teams have come out of the gate flying hot.
Last week we took MLB betting handicappers on a tour of the American League rookies who we projected will make the biggest impact on their sport and now we’ll put the shoe on the other foot and examine the top NL rookies:

Cameron Maybin, OF - Florida Marlins

Cameron Maybin isn’t even 22 years old yet, but the world is expected from him. Maybe was the key centerpiece in the Miguel Cabrera trade and if he pans out, he could be a Rookie of the Year candidate this season. MLB betting fans should be aware that Maybin has a very unique blend of power and speed, that should place him among the best fielders in the game. He’s still pretty young but if he gets full-time hours with the Marlins, don’t be surprised if he finishes with more than 20 home runs and steals.

Colby Rasmus, OF - St. Louis Cardinals

Hardcore baseball betting fans are familiar with Rasmus, who is a potential five-tool All-Star. The Cardinals have already shifted around Skip Schumaker in the field to make room for Rasmus, who could spark the Cards to have one of the better lineups in baseball. Rasmus spent a lot of time with the team in the 2008 season and he has looked fairly comfortable early on this season. With a lot of protection in the order and with little pressure, Rasmus could be the NL Rookie of the Year.

Andrew McCutcheon, OF - Pittsburgh Pirates

The Pittsburgh Pirates will be banking on Andrew McCutcheon this season as the franchise is really short on franchise talent. McCutcheon has the five-star potential to be their next centerpiece, but he has yet to crack their outfield. While he’s a long shot to be the Rookie of the Year, MLB betting handicappers should expect a strong second-half showing from him. The Pirates should call him up by mid-season.

Tommy Hanson, P - Atlanta Braves

While the Atlanta Braves are trying to bring along Tommy Hanson slowly, they might not have a choice if he dominates the minors again like he did last year. MLB betting fans know that the Braves lack a little bit of spice to keep up with the New York Mets but Hanson could be the answer. Hanson led the Arizona Fall League with five wins, while posting an ERA of 0.63 with 49 strikeouts in 28.2 innings pitched.

Chris Perez, P - St. Louis Cardinals

The St. Louis Cardinals primary plan of using Jason Motte as their closer failed miserably in the first week of the season, which means Chris Perez should get a chance to shine. Perez started the season in the minors but considering his fastball pushes 100 mph and he has a dominant sinker, he’s too much of an asset not to try out in the closer’s role. After all, it’s not like the Cardinals have many other options. If Perez steps in and dominates, he could have a dark horse for National League Rookie of the Year.

Youth Baseball Conditioning

Youth Baseball Conditioning by Trevor Sumner

There are many valuable youth baseball conditioning techniques to increase your players’ abilities by maximizing their strength, range of motion, and flexibility. Just as a car can only travel as fast as its engine will allow, in like manner, baseball players can only perform to the degree that their bodies will allow. If coaches, parents and mentors ensure that their players are involved in recommended youth baseball conditioning training, they will be increasing their players’ chances to fulfil their maximum potential. Here are some advised youth baseball conditioning techniques that are recommended for youth baseball coaches for the development of their players: Pitching Better through Swimming - Swimming can actually strengthen the shoulder muscles and enable pitchers to throw the baseball harder while protecting pitchers from devastating shoulder injuries. It is recommended that pitchers swim in free style for two minutes with a series of 4 repetitions. If the player can not swim, then the pitcher can stand waist deep in water under adult supervision and push the water away from the body with a hard thrust and fingers spread apart. This should be repeated for 2 minutes at a time. Sprint to Success - One of the traditional youth baseball training programs remains the best. Players need to build up their endurance in order to play the entire game with strength and energy. Wind sprints are the best way for youth baseball players to build up their endurance and, at the same time, bond with their teammates. If your players run wind sprints as a team or in bunches, such as pitchers, catchers, infielders and outfielders, you will be building up their endurance and the team will become closer as a unit. Ten 60 yard sprints are a good way to start, and you can lengthen the distance and repetitions over time. Squeeze that Ball - Another simple youth baseball conditioning exercise can be done everywhere from the ball field to the schoolyard and even to bed. Baseball players can increase their wrist strength by squeezing a rubber Spalding ball. Yes, these pink balls are still of infinite value to baseball players - pitchers, to increase the speed of their pitch; hitters by increasing their bat speed and, therefore, the distance of their drives; and fielders by increasing the strength of their throws. Stretch Before Games - Stretching and warm-ups are a key element of baseball conditioning training protocols to prevent injuries. Prior to every game and practice, baseball coaches should lead their team in a regular series of stretching and warm-up exercises for at least 10-12 minutes. Before the players begin playing baseball, make sure to cover all major muscle groups including shoulders, legs, arms, hips, and back.
Of course these are just a few, simple youth baseball conditioning exercises among many. Baseball coaches should be familiar with a wide variety of exercises and should weave these into a more holistic conditioning training plan that is appropriate to the age of their players. Combined with a variety of baseball drills that make the game fun and build the fundamental skills needed to play, a strong baseball conditioning training regimen will ensure that players reach the top of their game and avoid unnecessary injury.

Swimming Pool Safety This Summer

Swimming Pool Safety This Summer
By Fay Freedell

Who doesn’t love to splash around in the pool on a bright sunny day? Who doesn’t love to cool down and relax by the swimming pool? Since the beginning of time, water has been everyone’s best friend, not only because it is undeniably an essential element for survival, but also because it is a source of happiness and recreation as well.

Drowning Accidents

However, this universal element, when taken advantage of irresponsibly, may be a grim enemy to many. In fact, a great percent of fatalities through time have been caused by accidents involving bodies of water - drowning accidents among them. Drowning accidents have taken an alarming number of lives and have caused countless injuries since the beginning of time. In statistical research, more that 1,000 children drown each year with 65 percent occurring in swimming pools - at home, apartment complexes, or a public facility. Children aged 1 to 4 years old may be the most vulnerable to the risks of drowning in residential or public swimming pools since they generally have not acquired the skill of swimming, are small in size, and are often times very physically active and curious. Among the leading causes of these incidents is unsupervised access to the water.

The Solution

You may, after all, breathe a sigh of relief as you get a relaxing massage, sip your fruit smoothie, or work on your tan by the swimming pool. The answer to your worries is right at your doorstep. With a Pool Protector installed, you can now minimize the risks of drowning accidents. It is not only designed to watch after your kids, but it keeps your valued pets safe from drowning accidents as well. It is basically an electronic monitoring system that works wonders. It is a state-of-the-art sensor that detects children and even pets falling into an unsupervised swimming pool. It automatically gives off alarm sounds when children or pets fall or get in the water. The best thing about this Pool Protector is that it is portable, self-contained, lightweight, and very easy to operate. Safety doesn’t have be complex.

How does the Pool Protector Work?

The Pool Protector has an electronic sensor. When an entry into your unsupervised pool is detected, the sensor triggers a loud pulsating sound, which will be heard from the unit and inside your house - since it comes with a remote receiver. The Pool Protector will be installed on the pool deck. To ensure its constant life watch, it cannot be inactivated after you get it installed. Unless you put it in a sleep mode, it stays in the alarm ready mode to continue keeping you worry-free and relaxed. You would know if the alarm mode has been triggered because it will sound an alarm. The remote receiver can be mounted in your home up to 200 feet from the main unit. When using the Pool Protector, you only have to make sure that your electrical system operates compatibly with a twelve-volt power supply. Another bonus it that its nine-volt battery has long lifespan, lasting for approximately one year. One of the best places I have found to buy this unit is http://www.freedomsecurityproducts.com.

Are All Home Runs Equally Beautiful?

Are All Home Runs Equally Beautiful?
By Dr. Gary S. Goodman

Gary Sheffield just signed with the Mets. He is one home run shy of his 500th.

He’s playing in a new stadium, and he’s 40. There is a remote possibility that he could sock a caroming shot in the alley and bag an inside the park homer.

Would that be sweeter than launching a “no doubt about it” rocket into the stratosphere?

Does the type of home run inform how we feel about it as players and fans?

I’ve hit my share, and had my career in the sport been extended, I would have hit more.

Some are especially memorable and beautiful.

Like the time I “called my shot,” bragging to an opponent that I would park one in dead center the first time I faced his pitching in a game.

Sticking to the improbably self-glorifying script, I accomplished exactly that, taunting the hurler with an I-told-you-so grin as I rounded the bases.

When I screen “The Natural,” my favorite sports movie of all time (”Heaven Can Wait” is a runner-up), I never fail to get chills as the fictional Roy Hobbs smashes that walk-off, pennant winning shot in the bottom of the ninth, while bleeding through his bandaged ribs.

Speaking of walk-offs, who can forget Bobby Thompson’s “Shot Heard Round the World” or the hobbling Kirk Gibson’s World Series winner for the Dodgers, in 1988?

Home runs are dramatic, individual achievements.

But a first inning, nobody on base, one-run accomplishment, while portending a great game for the team that earns it, doesn’t necessarily leave you clutching your heart, at least as a fan.

It gives you hope, it makes you look forward with positive anticipation.

But I suppose that isn’t the same as watching a stunner, a game or season ending triumph that illuminates a ballplayer like a halo, never dimming.

Every kid should hit at least one dramatic homer, and every fan should be present when one instantly makes sports history.

Personally, I hope Sheffield hits 50 of them this year.

I’ve always liked his swing.

Golf Welcomes back Tiger Woods

As we are currently in the midst of a huge financial credit crunch people begin to feel down and depressed. Instead of going out in the evening people are grabbing snacks and sitting in front of the television.

Some of the most popular sports are Football, Boxing. and finally its golf, golf does tend to have a very relaxing aspect. But over the last year Golf has seen a major decrease in its viewer base and this is because of Tiger Woods not participating.

The most famous golf player has been out of action for months due to pain in his knee, he has stated that he feels 100% now.

So its great news all around for regular golf viewers as Tiger Woods tends to bring excitement to the game, the players that he's competing against also seem to be pretty happy and this is probably due down to the fact that people love playing people that are better then them. They do like to improve their game so that they can beat Tiger Woods.

The golf season is truly here so top your equipment up with leisure batteries and hit the green as it is probably one of the most relaxing and easiest ways to keep fit. With the world getting more obese then ever now is the best time to get into a sport.

The Most Popular Sporting Events to Travel To

Traveling to sporting events is a way of life for many individuals. A person picks a particular sport they’re interested in and they follow it religiously. The most popular of these sports include American football, basketball, baseball, soccer, and hockey. Each one of these sports consists of an event in which thousands upon thousands of people attend and millions more watch on TV. Then there is the ultimate event, which is the Olympics. The Olympics is the creme de la creme of sporting events because it consists of a myriad of sporting events that many individuals love. Refer to sporting events for more information.

Popular world championships

Of the most important sporting events that people travel to is the World Cup Soccer Tournament. Millions upon millions of people enjoy watching this event live and on television. Some of the most talented athletes play soccer and the game itself is rather exciting to watch. One just never knows what is going to happen, which is one of the reasons why the sport has grown to worldwide popularity.

In the United States, the Super Bowl is the most popular sporting event. It consists of two teams that have played through a series of bowl games in order to make it to the ultimate prize. Thousands show up to this event and millions watch on television. The halftime show is known for exciting moments and big superstars.

The NBA’s Final Four Tournament is watched religiously by many basketball lovers. Many individuals use charts to predict who is going to make it to the Final Four. The Final Four is one team from each region of the United States. Eventually, it is narrowed down to two teams who play for the national championship. Go to golf events for more information.

The World Series is another very popular worldwide event. The World Series consists of the best baseball teams in the world competing for that one goal. That goal is to win the world championship title. This shows that baseball is more than just an ‘All-American Game.’

The last event that many travel to is the Hockey World Championships. Again, this is a world championship that many in the United States, Canada, and various other countries attend. The best in the world compete for the ultimate title of ‘World Champions.’

The Olympics

The Olympics is the most watched event and has the highest live attendance throughout the course of the event. Many countries from around the world compete in both the summer and the winter Olympics. Some of the sports such as basketball and hockey are commonly televised sports. However, there are other sports such as track and field, volleyball, swimming, and softball that aren’t usually televised as much. Gymnastics doesn’t see as much television time either, so the Olympics provides an opportunity for individuals to watch those sports they enjoy but do not normally get to see. This makes the Olympics a treat.

Fortunately, people are able to travel to an Olympic event every two years. That’s because there is a 4 year gap between the Winter Olympics and a 4 year gap between the Summer Olympics. This causes both Olympic events to stagger, allowing people to enjoy the games every two years.

Fun for everyone

When it comes to sporting events, they are fun for everyone. With such events as the Olympics, there is always a sporting event that everyone enjoys watching. It is refreshing to see the teamwork and more so to watch your team win the game. Winning produces a feeling of elation for the athletes and does the same for the fans routing them on. That’s why everyone should pick a favorite sport and a favorite team at some point in their life. Visit sports events for more information.

How to Pick the Right Baseball Bats for Your Needs

by J. del Rosario

If you’re a big baseball fan then you’ll know that the right mix of skills and equipment is the key to a great game. At the forefront of the equipment are your baseball bats. For seasoned players however, going out and grabbing the first thing on the shelf is not the answer, nor is it about the price tag. It’s all about finding what is right for you.

In order to do this, you will also need to take into consideration the features and technology which are used on a bat that you’d like to buy. Weight, composition and construction all play a part in the quality of any baseball bat. So before you go out to the store, it’s prudent to first consider which of the brands offer you the best deal.

There are different brands of bats that you can try. Some notable brands include:

Akadema Anderson DeMarini Easton Worth

Different brands of bats have different designs and features. Along with the price tag, they will help you in making an informed decision as to which type of bats are best for you.

While looking for your bat, take into account that different bats are made from different materials and technologies. These attributes vary but for the most part, but usually they’re lighter weight and better compression, while at other times, they can be a better grip or reduced vibration design. One example that we can use to illustrate this characteristic is the Worth Lithium Edge Senior League Baseball Bat, which features a Silencer Leather Grip to help remove the sting of impact vibration. Another good example is DeMarini’s Voodoo Black. This particular bat allows for easier batting and better handle performance through the inclusion of optimum flex.

Also, remember that different bats have different measurements. Also, some bats use a different measurements for their handle and barrels based on the materials they used. So when you get around to comparing weight or performance, don’t just go with how heavy it is. You should also remember to look at the measurements, as well as its materials (wood or aluminum for example), and how they can relate to your performance.

In the case of a bat’s composition, let’s use carbon composites as an example. Bats like the DeMarini CF3 combine a Carbon Reinforced Composite vibration reduction system with a genuine Demarini Doublewall composite barrel to provide increased batting power.

And while we’re on the topic of design measurements, we should also touch some points on knobs and handles. High speed bat-on-ball collisions can sometimes injure some wrists, so it’s a good idea to pick baseball bats which are resistant to impact shock effects. A good example for this type of bat is the Anderon’s PyroTech XT (-5) Senior League Baseball Bat. This bat features an Ergonomic Knob, which was developed by orthopedic surgeons, designed to reduce hand trauma. It also includes Ultra-Thin Whip Handle, which is designed to reduce the bat’s vibration which in turn reduces the sting on your wrists.

There are plenty of bats out there. Some are based on the classic design, while others are made with newer better technologies. Whichever you choose, the final product should be up to you. So improve your batting average by learning which bats are most suitable to you and your wallet.

Straight Talk About Choosing a Horseracing Partnership

by C. Anne Baker

After dreaming for years about having a racehorse of your own, you jump straight into a horseracing partnership in order to fulfill that dream. Problems can occur when this happens because you don’t know how to tell a good investment opportunity from a bad one. Before diving into horseracing investments, take some time to investigate the options that are available to you to make sure you invest in the right one for your financial needs.

Things you should consider about a horseracing partnership and questions you should ask include:

* Is this an investment you can really afford? Do you know what the maintenance costs will be? Do you have the financial position to allow you to buy your initial share in the horseracing partnership and then to pay the monthly expense fees? These are often required to be paid in advance.

* Do have a preference when it comes to the business structure of the partnership? How will the structure of the business affect your taxes and liability? What type of documentation will you have for your taxes?

* Does the horseracing partnership management team have a good past record? Are the staff members helpful and accommodating? Will you be able to speak directly to the managing partner?

* How does the partnership’s management team keep records of its income and how it pays its expenses? Will you get updates about these? Can you view the records associated with them? When will the management team pay out the purse winnings?

* How are the horses acquired? Does the purchase price of each horse reflect the price of each share?

* What do you know about the people you will be investing with? Do they have references written by other partners?

* How does the racing partnership make its decisions? Are they all made by the managing partner? Is there a vote among the partners? Will there be meetings periodically to allow the partners to talk about issues and to hear about progress?

* How often will you have contact with the horse?

* If you join a horseracing partnership, what benefits are they offering you?

* Can you get out of the partnership? What are the procedures for transferring your shares? What happens when it is time to retire the horse?

There are many factors to consider prior to joining a horseracing partnership. If you feel overwhelmed or unsure, it is best to consult the services of an advisor, attorney, accountant, or a combination thereof for assistance. You may also consider seeking advice from experienced owners, most of whom will talk openly to you regarding the industry if they feel you are serious about becoming an owner.

A Bowling Wrist Guard or Bowling Glove can Really Help your Game

A bowling wrist support really helps to keep the wrist straight when releasing the ball. They are many different types from basic to elaborate.

A basic wrist guard has a piece of metal on the back while the more elaborate wrist guard has some adjustment and can also cover an entire finger. Be sure that the fit is right whichever wrist guard you select.

The follow through on the release of the ball is very important. Release the ball with the “thumb the nose” action. This eliminates crossing over the body as the ball comes off the hand.

Bowling gloves are meant to provide greater grip, just like most athletic gloves. Bowling gloves are also sold to bowling enthusiasts as the casual player don’t really need gloves to play.

Gloves are there to provide a better grip to the ball since most times, sweaty hands can cause a ball to slip. They are made of various materials including leather and synthetics.

There are also bowling gloves available that have magnets sewn into them, since magnets are known to improve circulation, relieve pain and swelling, speed up the healing process and increase range of motion.

Bowling wrist supports and bowling gloves can not only help your game, but in cases of an injury, they can really help healing and prevent further damage to muscles and joints.

Know your skateboard properly.

by Todd Martin

Considered both a sport and a mode of transportation, skateboarding has found its way into mainstream culture and can be seen not only on the streets and in neighborhoods, but also on TV, in movies and in advertisements across the nation. Skateboards are made up of several major parts such as, Skateboard Decks, Skateboard Bearings, Skateboard Hardware, Skateboard Trucks, and Skateboard Wheels. Also, there are optional accessories such as, Lapper, Nose guard. Rails, Risers, (Angled) Risers, Grip tape, Tail guard. All of these parts can be purchased online at a very reasonable price.

Skateboard decks are usually 7-ply maple planks that are anywhere from 7-10 ” inches wide. Wide planks are used for trick-skating, while skateboards in the 7-8 ” inch range are used for street-skating. Decks usually have “grip tape” on the top of them. This tape adheres to the top of the deck, while the surface provides a sandpaper material, which helps the individual “grip” the board. Decks like Enjoi skateboard decks also have a wide range of designs on the bottom of them from patterns or solid colors which allow the individual to add stickers without disrupting any art to figures, structures and landscapes.

Bearings facilitate to mount the deck on an axle. Nearly all bearings are graded according to a scale called an ABEC scale. Standard size of bearings is Industrial 608 and bearings are by and large made of steel. Other hardware includes a set of bolts, generally 8 in a set (10-32 bolts). An Allen (or crosshead) is also part of hardware. Also, used are self-lock nylock nuts.

Skateboards have two metal trucks, which are usually an aluminum alloy. These connect the wheels to the deck. The trucks are made up of a base plate and a hanger. The base plate is screwed to the deck and the hanger holds the axle. There are also rubber grommets or bushings between the hanger and the base plate, which help the board maneuver and turn. The stiffer is the bushings or rubber grommets, the stiffer is the turn. The bushings also cushions. A kingpin bolt is used to hold the parts together.

Wheels are made from polyurethane. They are available in different Sizes and shapes to suit different types of skating, such as street or trick skating. Smaller sizes keep the deck nearer to the floor, which requires not as much of energy to speed up or slow down. The hardness of the wheel also affects on the whole performance. Hardness is generally measured by durometer ‘A’ scale. A very soft wheel is about 75a and a very hard wheel is about 101a.

Best Gambling Recommendations for Beginners

by Jerremy Grey

If interested in visiting a casino for the first time - regardless of the reason - there are some considerations you need to take into account first. Beginners in gambling should take the following advice so that they can enjoy the inexperience.

If you want to gamble, that is fantastic, but as a beginner, you really do have to read up on the game you want to play. This will improve your chances at winning because it will help you better judge which bets are good ones and which are bad ones. Beginners can get this information at their local bookstore or online; they can also play simulation games.

Another important tip for gambling if you are a beginner is bankroll management. Among those that engage in these types of games, bankroll management is the most important tip they can ever add to their arsenal. The goal of bankroll management is to keep the player from becoming penniless; it lets them enter a casino with a set amount of money that they know they will spend, win, and lose before leaving the casino. For the person that wants to make sure they they are having a good experience at the casino, these are tips that should always be kept in mind.

Many people are choosing to do their wagering at home, doing online gambling in the privacy of their living room. Land based casinos lose customers on an increasing basis as people choose to play craps, blackjack, roulette, poker, and other similar games online. These online sites are more secure than they have ever been, and playing is easy.

Poker players comprise the biggest majority of online gambling players. For many people, it is impossible to play a good hand of poker at home because there simply aren’t enough people around who also enjoy the game and want to play. Online gathering changes this in your favor, because it allows you to easily locate people based on game, region or amount of wager. Thus, no matter what your favorite poker game might be, you can find it online. Poker games at online sites include great features such as chat and message boards.

When new, the best place to learn how to gamble for free are online gaming sites. These sites have simulation plays that allow you to play - or test - out a system free of charge. The major benefit of these simulation games is that they do not involve the player betting any money as they play the game; otherwise, they are just like the real deal.

For many people in the United States online wagers are illegal, however simulation games are legal. If you are planning on going online to gamble, check out your localities laws. If you want to gamble within the comforts of your home and be free to do so at any time of the day, you should look into online gambling.

European International Ice Hockey Tournaments

by Jerremy Grey

Though Canada was the birthplace of hockey, the sport has since crossed over into the United States and Europe. Stanley cup playoffs take the concentration of the international men’s ice hockey world championships away from American enthusiasts, unlike their European counterparts. In countries such as the U.S., Canada, and others with a large concentration of NHL players, the countries are at a loss to round up their best players because those players have joined the NHL and will be competing for the Stanley cup.

For many years professionals were barred from playing at the international level, and now that many Europeans are playing for the NHL, the world championships no longer represent the world’s top players. Hockey was an event that’s been a part of the Olympic Games since 1924 with Canada winning 6 out of 7 gold medals. During the years that professional American, Swedish, Finnish, and Canadians were barred from Olympic competition, the United States took home the gold medal (in 1960) and Russia won all but two gold medals from 1956 to 1988. A bunch of non-pro college kids in Lake Placid, New York beat the Russians in 1980 for the gold medal.

It was then that a new surge in the popularity of the game that most Americans weren’t paying too much attention to. The Summit series in 1972 and 1974 had established Canada and Russia as hockey rivals. The best players benefited from this, as it gave rise to the Canadian Cup, which only deals with the world’s best players. The Canadian cup later became the World Cup of Hockey with the United States winning in 1996 and Canada winning in 2004. Since 1998 NHL professionals have played in the Olympics giving the top players more opportunity to compete and face off with other professional players from different countries. Since the year of 1998, the Olympics have been home to 9 women’s competitions; the women’s games started that year.

Women have been able to make a noticeable amount of noise in this sport, as they play their games with the same fierceness of women. On the other hand, there is still a lot that must be accomplished in order for women to truly be on par with men at the domestic or international level. Historically, men have been the players in the game, and women will have a tough fight ahead of them if they want to be considered serious contenders. The millions of people in Canada and the United States who love this sport break attendance records frequently. This sport is seen as the kind of family tradition, an past time that many Americans view the sports of baseball, football, or basketball.

Whether the players are pros or whether they are newbies, hockey is its own little world with its own set of rules. Soap opera fans have nothing on fans of this sport; people worship it like the air they breathe. For some, spending 2 to 3 hours late at night on the ice is perfectly normal.

How to find the right Fishing Reel for you!

by Fishing Guy

Young prospective fishermen are usually exposed to fishing from an early age because their parents are into the sport. It’s a great way to get away and enjoy some quality family time. They typically get bought an inexpensive rod and reel with one of the latest Disney characters on it. For a kid, those reels can be pretty fun to use but once you get older and become more serious about fishing, you’ll need to start investing a little bit more money in better gear and finding the right reel to use will make all the difference in your success at fishing.

There are 4 basic models of fishing reels and understanding them will help you select the right one. There is the spin casting, spinning (open-face), bait casting and fly reel. Whatever your motivation is to get out to the local fishing hole, having the correct reel will make it more enjoyable.

Your Mickey and Barbie fishing reels was the spin casting sort. This, however, doesn’t mean that such a reel should be obsolete for you now. This sort of reel is less prone to tangles and snares and casts with the push of a button. By pressing and holding the thumb button on the back of the spin casting reel (opposite the string hole), you essentially push and hold a spindle and peg which locks down the fishing line. By letting go of the button when you cast, the bait or lure lobs out to the water. Though quick and painless, the drag and design of the spin cast reel doesn’t allow for casting very far. If you’re new to fishing, and don’t want to use a lot of effort (cast and let the bait sit on the bottom, for example) or catch too big of fish, then this style is for you.

A spinning reel is not for the novice and is the second most common type of reel next to the spin casting reels. Spinning reels have open faces and you can see the string in the reel. You have to pull back the bail to release the string and then control the cast with your thumb and forefinger. Most professional fishers use a spinning reel to catch their fish on. Because you can control the way the string leaves the reel, you can get very accurate casts when you cast into reeds or other areas fish like to hide.

Bait casting reels are newer additions to the fishing world and in the hands of a pro, can be fantastic reel. If however you don’t know how to use one, it can also be a great source of aggravation and can ruin a fishing outing. The spool of the reel is not housed like the spin casting but it is also not fully open like the spinning reel. It’s a cross of the two. The biggest drawback to this type of reel is that it is very easy to over spin the line and end up with a huge knot.

Watching an experienced fly fisherman work the fly gear and land a great fish is truly and inspiring site. Fly reels are the fouth style of reel and are nothing like the other types or styles of reels and in fact don’t even use your standard clear fishing line. Fly reels are made to exacting specifications and designed for precise movements involved in fly fishing.

6 Mental Training Tips - How to Improve Your Mental Toughness

softball-player.jpgThe mental is such a big part of our game. It's often the determining factor between success or failure.

Almost every day, I get emails from players, coaches, and parents about how to improve confidence or be mentally tougher.

I thought I would share with you a few tips to help you become almost instantly mentally tougher.

READ THEM SLOWLY and take time to study them. This stuff is what helps the best athletes in the world be successful.

Tip #1 Overcome fear of failure. Fear of failure might be what is holding you back. Dare to be great by taking  risks, chances. Nobody has ever achieved greatness without facing hardship first. Failing is a good thing if you learn from it. Instead of seeing problems or obstacles,  see challenges to overcome. The most successful people on the planet are risk-takers.  You will never achieve anything by risking nothing.

Tip #2 - Make no excuses and take full responsibility for all your failures and  all your successes. The world’s most successful people never make excuses and they hold themselves accountable. Achieving success and making excuses are mutually exclusive, wholly incompatible.

Tip #3 - Accept the fact that you will fail, make a lot of mistakes and learn from them. Failing is a big part of the game.
If you succeed only 30% of the time at the plate, it’s excellent. That means that you will be failing more often than you succeed. Failing is part of life and sport in general. You actually learn more by failing than by succeeding. The key point is to look at mistakes and failures as learning opportunities. Ask yourself: “What didn’t go well and how can I do things differently next time to be successful?”

Tip #4 - Be here, now. Play one pitch at a time, confident and focused on each pitch as it is played with disregard for past or future pitches. Ignore the emotional baggage of scores, innings, and pitch counts; just focus on the next pitch. Playing a full game in the present is to ultimate goal and the best way to ensure that you perform at your best.

Tip #5 - Focus on the process rather than the outcomes. You have much more control over the process than the outcome. For example, when hitting, focus on having a good at bat (proper mental approach to the plate, selecting the right pitches, using your best swing, hitting a line drive, etc.)  rather than focusing on getting a hit or not striking out.

Tip #6 - Develop routines to help you get in the zone. The use of routine is one of the most widespread practices among elite softball players. They perform routines before games, between innings and between pitches
at the plate and on the field. A routine integrates both the mental and the physical aspects. It is a specific way of doing things to stay focus, block distraction and put you in the ideal mindset. Routines are powerful and you should definitely use them.

Again, take time to re-read slowly these 6 tips. They can tremendously help you perform on the softball field.

Be mentally tough.

P.S. The higher the level, the more mental the game becomes. It's never too early too start working on the mental aspect of your game. Becoming mentally tough is one of the best way to be dominant on the field for years to come!

Softball Training - The Importance of Recovery and Regeneration

cat_massage.jpgIt's the Thanksgiving break in the US.

Notice the word "break".

At some point, the body always need a break to "recover and regenerate".

It could also be said that you need to "relax and re-energize".

No matter how you say it - it's the fact that you do it that counts.

You see, the body was designed to adapt to  various stimulations.

So, when you train, you stimulate the body and the body adapts by improving whatever you worked on.

The body never adapts during the training or the "stimulation" - it adapts AFTER during the recovery and regeneration process.

The training stimulus is only the trigger to a whole recovery and regeneration process that helps you become a better athlete.

Every exercise physiologist, strength coach, and elite sports coach know that you need to give  athletes a break at some point in the year.

If you don't - they eventually get tired, become  less motivated, have a harder time focusing, perform less, become more injured, and burn out -  mentally and physically.

Quality rest is an IMPORTANT performance factor.

It's never "cool" for an athlete to take some time off. Often serious athletes are almost feeling guilty about taking some time off.

BUT YOU NEED IT TO! It's physically and psychologically impossible to go hard for an extended of time without consequences.

How do you "R & R"?

- Always have at least a day off every week, never go 7 days per week

- Have lighter week every 4-6 weeks.

- Always take at least 4 weeks off every year

- Slow down or take a night off once in a while when you feel more tired, have less energy or have a harder time to focus.

- Always take monday off after a big weekend of competition or two days of serious training.

When you "R & R" - the key is NO SOFTBALL.

Make sure you "R & R". Here are additional recovery and regeneration tips.

Who loves ya? ;-)

Bat and Ball - Live Cricket

by Chilly Chills

I love live cricket. Nothing for me is more exciting then settling down to watch the old bat and ball. I prefere it greatly to football. Back in the day I was a pretty nifty player, however don’t think I could last very long in a real live cricket game today!

Cricket legends like Shane Warne and Ian Botham are two that I really aspire to. I really hope I will be as good as them one day, but to be honest I doubt that will happen. Still, that won’t stop me grabbing my bat in one hand and pretending to be Botham with my nephew.

To this day, I adore sitting down and watching cricket, in fact nothing can beat it. The excitement, the thrill, the buzz. How far will it go?! I always like predicting if the ball is spinning away for a 4 or a 6! My average, batting wise is a respectable 78, but I can say that it is better than some people.

Of course it is not all about the Batting. Bowling is just as important. I have to say that I have never been too great at this. I used to sit for hours watching live cricket, watching Warne spin the ball in a huge array and directions, what an amazing talent.

The atmosphere of a live cricket game is immense, it really brings people together. It particularly helps give children an activity to do and away from the streets and often away from trouble. They can get together at their local club to bond over a spot of cricket. They can actively take part themselves and play live cricket in an exciting and yet relaxing manner. This environment allows them to follow the magic of Lara and Warne, using them as their inspiration, they can go from strength to strength.

All the clubs I have been involved in have had such brilliant atmosphere; you can definitely see how a good positive team can bring results.

I still play cricket now and again, I love live cricket so much, I don’t think I could ever be without it. I just play in the lower leagues of my local cricket club. I like the feeling of togetherness and unity it gives me, playing as a team, batting for the same side.

The immense, drive behind a team is addictive, it is that feeling that makes me want to play every single day, and it if wasn’t for my crippled back, I would be out there, every minute of every dayHOWZAT!
