Take Strokes off of Your Golf Score

by Jackal Hamilton

Many golf players of all skill levels, from amateur to professional, have the urge to drop golf scores by one or two strokes. It is an endless cycle of time-consuming practice hours, driving on the range, and practice sessions spent perfecting the swing or practicing with one or two particular golf clubs. For golf enthusiasts seeking useful guidance, there are several recommendations you can follow to improve your golf score.

Developing a good rhythm in terms of swinging and playing is one of the most important rules of golf. Many golfers who develop a bad swing or other unfortunate habits on the golf course do so mostly because they are too hasty and they rush themselves. Take your time and work on developing a good pace in swinging to decrease the number of wayward shots and poor strikes.

Another tip that a golfer can use to lower their score is to change their putter to something suited for their tempo. Too often, golfers will choose a putter that can be too heavy or not heavy enough for their putting stroke. This can lead to a poor regulation of power, making the putt go offline or too short or long. Many golfers have found that the use of a belly putter, with a shaft that is long enough to poke the golfer in the stomach, is another way to balance the weight of a club and regulate the putting stroke better.

A third tip you can use to reduce your golf score is to play with the proper tees. Many starting golfers see better results from the use of a tee that sets the ball higher off of the ground. This can help the golfer who needs that extra height to practice hitting the ball cleanly and without the threat of grounding the club into the turf.

The fourth piece of advice that can be given to a golfer in search of shaving a stroke or two from their game is to scout the golf course before your golf game. Even if you just look at the golf course map, this way you can identify the hardest holes and try to come up with a strategy that can help you stay out of the hazard and in play, thus reducing your score.

The last piece of advice that can be considered in shaving some strokes off your game is to relax when you are out there, enjoy the game and the golf course when you are out there. Many golfers tend to play with a competitive mind set making them play poorly. Tons of golfers will tell you that having a clear head and positive thinking, can help you more with your golf game than any other piece of advice out there.
