Massage Chairs Provide Effective Warm Up Before Golfing

by James Knolan

Warming up and down is important to any sport. Most golfers just wing it. They twist around with their club at their waist, take a couple of putts and they are ready to go. By the fourth or fifth hole, the back starts to ache from improper warm up. In every sport proper warm up is key to obtain peak performance. Muscles need to be stretched and blood circulation increased before physical exertion. The body then works in greater harmony. Massage chairs now make warming up and down fun and easy before your next round.

Golf is an interesting sport. It is viewed by many a low impact, since golfers ride carts or only walk. As opposed to sports like soccer where you need to run. However, golf requires repetitive motions. The repetitive motion of the golf swing can impact the entire body. The swing requires a large degree of motion to accomplish properly. The repetitive swinging motion can cause back, shoulder and neck pain. This is especially possible with little to no warm up.

The cause of your back or shoulder pain may be from injury or from improper warm up and warm down prior to strenuous activities. Simple movements done on a repetitive basis can cause a breakdown of the muscle tissue causing it to be less flexible. Warming up and down helps to increase the flexibility and elasticity of the muscles. Using a massage chair recliner helps to loosen your muscles, enhance your blood circulation and increase mental alertness.

Believe it or not, tight shoulder and back muscles are the leading cause of golf related back problems. The twisting motion of a full swing puts stress on your whole body with particular emphasis on your spine. This side to side motion is always done on the same side of the body, since few of us our switch hitters. All the stress is put more on one side of the body over the other. Since this swing motion is repeated throughout the course of the tournament, the back and shoulder tighten up reducing flexibility.

The goal of warming up prior to your round of golf is to get the heart beating. Increasing your heart rate will circulate more nutrients to the muscles making energy more abundant. Also, getting your muscles loosened up helps to increase their flexibility and elasticity. This helps your swing by having your muscles relaxed and not tense. Try to warm up just before your game. You do not want to cool down too much and have your muscles tighten back up.

Shiatsu massage therapy is a great way to get an invigorating warm up. Shiatsu effectively warms up the muscles, increases blood flow and increase alertness. Some of the top manufacturers of massage chairs like Panasonic, Omega and Sanyo have shiatsu massage therapy. A very effective model of massage chair is the Panasonic EP 30004.

If you want to warm up your neck and shoulders, then try the HEC-DR7700 massage chair by Sanyo. Sanyo has developed a unique massage roller system that can effectively grip. This grip massage is very effective in the shoulder, neck and upper back areas. This is a great massage to get prior to playing golf.

Stretching is important to perform before your golf outing. The Montage Premier massage chair by Omega comes with a lower body traction system. This traction system actually stretches out the entire lower body. The Montage Premier will hold onto your feet and then it stretches you out. This helps to elongate the muscles of the lower back, hips, thighs, knees and ankles. Use this in conjunction with the built in heating elements for a great warm up.

Reducing your score and the chance of injury are primary concerns of golfers today. Both of these can be reduced with proper warm up and down. If you don?t have back or shoulder problems, then be proactive and try to prevent their occurrence. If you have some level of back and shoulder pain, then healing and preventing further injury is vitally important. Massage chairs offer many potential benefits to golfers. If you golf with regular frequency, then massage chairs are a viable economic alternative to a massage therapist. Do not let your back pain hinder your golf game.

Sorenstam Chimes in on Wie and the PGA Exemption

Annika Sorenstam is not holding back on the topic of Michelle Wie and why she would choose to play with the men of the PGA this week rather than compete with the LPGA at the Women’s British Open.

Thursday begins Annika’s final Women’s British Open before retirement. Sorenstam believes the 18-year-old Wie, who will be in action in Reno, Nevada, this week, is not doing herself (anyone else) any favors by playing against the men. Michelle has slipped in the women’s rankings to number 299.

Sorenstam has some credibility on the subject. After all, she was the World’s No 1 women golfer in May 2003 when she became the first woman in 53 years to play on the US men’s tour.

Although she narrowly missed the cut, the now 37-year-old Sorenstam described her two rounds in the Colonial Tournament in Fort Worth, Texas, as “a wonderful experience”. However, she never felt the need to do anything similar again.

Annika remarked, “I really don’t know why Michelle is continuing to do this. I mean, we have a major this week and if you can’t qualify for a major, I don’t see any reason why you should play with the men.”

Michelle was not granted an exemption for Sunningdale, although she did have a chance of qualifying at the State Farm Classic, an LPGA Tour event in Springfield, Illinois, 11 days ago. True to Wie form, she was one shot off the lead after three rounds, then was disqualified for not having signed her second-round scorecard until after she had left the recording area.

Wie opted against entering any further qualifying event for the British Open. Because she was not granted an exemption, she chose to go to Reno to compete against the men instead.

These exemptions are getting old. Unless Michelle starts to compete and win, the exemptions will soon dry up. She has got to learn to first, sign her scorecard correctly, then start winning on the LPGA without exemptions. She is not the cute 13 wunderkind any more. And the ladies of the LPGA are getting pretty darn weary of the whole thing.

Softball Training - Get in Shape for Your Tryouts

Catcher_diving_catch.jpg

Are you going to be trying out for a team in the new few weeks?

If so, make sure you read this.

I just recently conducted several interviews with top travel ball coaches about tryouts and selection camps.

One of things that they all mentioned is that they look for players that are "athletic".

Why?

Athletic softball players…

  • usually improves quickly and can learn new skills  faster.
  • tend to generally perform better on the softball  field.
  • are usually good all around players. They can hit well and play solid defense.
  • are usually more disciplined. They spend time working out and watching what they eat to increase their athleticism.

You have a tryout in a few weeks and you want to do all you can to impress the coaches?

Make sure you workout to increase your speed,  strength, power, and overall athleticism.

Even if you workout only for 2-3 weeks seriously, that will show. You'll a tiny bit faster, stronger, and more powerful.

So don't procrastinate and make sure you start lifting weights, doing power exercises, running sprints and doing agility drills.

That will definitely help you impress the coaches.

Train hard.

Marc
"Your Softball Peak Performance Coach"

P.S. You can take a few weeks off training after your tryouts. Now is not the time, you must get ready to perform!

What to look for when buying used Golf Clubs

by Golf Guy

New golf clubs can cost a bundle these days. For a new golfer or someone who only gets the chance to play occasionally, buying used golf clubs makes great economic sense. Used clubs can be bought at a fraction of what new clubs sale for and many times the clubs are in near perfect condition.

Before purchasing the club, it is a good idea to look at the club head for signs of excessive wear. If you see a brightly worn spot where the club strikes the ball, then the clubface will not make good contact with the ball and will effect the distance of the ball travel. You should be able to see grooves that have defined edges on the face of the club. This will assure you have good contact between the club and the ball.

Worn areas or indentations on the shaft of the club are a sign of weakness. Hold the club up and look down the shaft for any signs of it being bent or twisted. Testing the torque of the shaft can be done by twisting the grip and head in opposite directions. A weak torque will twist easily and should be avoided because it is a sign of weakness in the shaft.

Choosing between a graphite and metal club should be determined by your own preference. What type of club you play better with should be the type you choose. Each person has their own favorite and when buying used clubs, you need select the ones that are best suited to you.

Clubs made from aluminum are nice and light, but they are more susceptible to wear and might not be the better choice when buying used clubs. Metal is more solid than most of the alloy clubs and will probably be in a better used condition.

Golf Balls - Not the Only Gift for the Enthusiast

by Jack Blacksmith

Are you in search of a gift for a golf enthusiast? Maybe you?re looking for something for yourself that will improve your game or make it more personalized. Golf is one sport that has a plethora of accessories; it?s almost mind boggling. There are accessories in all price ranges so there?s always something that will fit your budget.

A golfer?s golf clubs are something that is very important and something that has been acquired after much shopping and trial and error. Ask any golfer and they will tell you that borrowing or renting clubs will only be done if they?re desperate. As this is the case, think about golf accessories for their clubs. The easiest one is a cleaning kit to keep their prized possessions shiny and new. There are also head covers that range from basic to ones in the shape or animals or more conservative monogrammed ones. Golf club grips are another idea; there is a diverse selection and if the accessory is for yourself then you might think about shelling out more for a custom fit grip.

There are other golf accessories to make the game more personalized. There is a wide variety of golf tees and golf balls. They come in an array of colors and styles and you can also get them personalized. Tees come in rubber or brush; brush is preferred since it is supposed to be longer lasting and give the golfer better accuracy. Golf balls come in many colors and it?s more of preference than anything else so pick one in your or your friend?s favorite color. A good compliment to balls and tees is a golf ball cleaner.

A ball retriever is another accessory that is popular for the golf enthusiast. There are affordable, yet effective, generic ones to choose from or you can get one personalized. Its nice to have if you’re on your local course or exploring golf courses in Costa Blanca.

There are also gifts and accessories that are used in the sport but have no real bearing on the game or relation to the equipment. Golf towels are something that every golfer has and many are available with logos but most choose monograms or to personalize it with a family crest. Also think about getting a personalized visor or some nice, wrap around sunglasses with sufficient UV protection. Its nice to have if you’re on your local course or exploring golf courses in Costa Blanca.

To find golf accessories, a good sporting good store will have the basics but if you want something special then visit a pro golf shop; the staff will be able to help you find the perfect accessory. You can also find some unique items online.

The Golf Swing Sequence

The Mysteries Of The Golf Swing Sequence

It is almost the holy grail of the recreational golfer, to work out the intricacies of the golf swing sequence. However, it is actually not as mysterious as you may think.

You may think I am crazy to say that there is not so much mystery to the swing. Just looking along the ranks of the pros, it is true that they all have trouble with their swing, and most of the legends in the game have changed their swing at some point.

But in a way that is the whole point.

The actual swing is no mystery. Once you have your set up, there is the backswing going up to the top of the swing. Then there is the downswing leading to impact with the ball, then the follow through leading to the finish position.

The trouble is, any of these positions can affect the resulting shot, so they all have to be consistent to get a consistent swing. That is where the problems start!

A lot of people try to copy their favorite player, but that is a crucial mistake. Do not forget that each and every professional player on the tour has a swing which is individual, it works for them, and it has been tailored for them by their coach. Even if two players may appear to have the same swing, the way that they reach that end result is going to be different.

Many pros have what you could term ‘text book’ swings, in that you would be very happy if you or any golf student had a swing like it. Some of the biggest names in the game though, have downright ugly swings, that almost any golf instructor would try and change. That type of swing is not likely to be effective for most anybody else. However, it works for them! And if it had won you $10 million on the tour, would you want to change it, or keep it ugly?

The right swing for you depends to a huge extent on your body. In broad terms it will vary according to what body shape you have, and where you are strongest, the arms or legs. It will vary according to your individual muscle strength and also your flexibility. This means, of course, that it will also vary a little bit at different times of your life, depending on your fitness, joint flexibility and strength, and other factors.

For example, some styles of swing need an impact with the ground. If you do not have strong enough wrists to cope, that swing will never work for you. Equally, if you have successfully used this type of swing in the past but then develop a problem with your wrists, it may be better to look for another style of swing rather than trying to recover your old form with your habitual swing.

So to sum up, studying the basics of the swing is great for recreational golfers, but once you get past that stage, it is probably only professional help from an instructor that will improve your golf swing sequence.

Back Swing Problems. Get Free Golfing Help Here

by Dai1952

Mastering your back swing is critical if you really want to have a great golfing experience. You simply can not expect a good game of golf without this skill. You could definitely play but improving this skill would not only improve your golf performance but improve your putting skills also. Focus more on improving your form and distance than improving your power. Remember this as you start working on this area.

If you are starting with a good solid stances as you swing, which includes proper posture, as well as shoes and alignment with the ball you are going to have a much better attempt at improving your swing. Unless you have a strong posture, you might twist at the wrong time which has a potential problem of not being able to grasp the club rightly. Chances of a good back swing can be spoiled when all these things come together. For the right follow through for your swing, your first defensive step is to have the right posture.

The most effective way to improve your stance is to have a picture taken of yourself. Compare the correct stance with the photograph which shows the way you are standing. Take a lesson on how to correct postures if this option is not suitable. Building your skills upon a good set of foundation skills is necessary in order to ensure that you are learning the right skills as you need them.If you have the skill to work alongside a golf instructor this would be a more beneficial since they can be more honest with you regarding the problems with your stance than you will be with yourself.

Once you have corrected your stance, you should rectify problems with your grip. If you are overextending your grip, or even holding the club the wrong way you are going to have a bad backhand from the very beginning. There is no way possible to have a correct back swing if you do not grip the club appropriately. It is physically impossible and you will find that you are met with countless frustration from attempting it. Dramatic outcome can be expected if you simply shift the position of your hands by a small fraction.

If you want to get an improvement in your back swing, pull the club from the ball before it leaves the tee. Most players make the mistake of lifting the club back and up at the exact same time. You not only hit the ball off center but it can damage the movement too. Remember to pull back the club before you lift it off the ground. A magical improvement can be noticed. Such a simple and uncomplicated task, you sure could do this. To improve your back swing, there is nothing like making a concerted effort to pull the club before lifting.

Different Golf Club Components

by Paul J James

A golf club is made up of many different parts. Each of these parts or components, has evolved over time with technology. This article to show you each area of the club and its effect on the game.

1. The Club Head

The surface that hits the ball is called the striking area and in the middle of that is usually called the “sweet spot.” The more angle the striking area has the higher the ball will go. Woods are usually designed for low level shots and the irons are for high more controlled shots.

The golf club head is the component that makes contact with the ball. It has a large flat surface which is the area the ball is expected to contact on, and often has a large wooden area behind the shaft. The other kind of head is the iron and has a more angled area, but is a thing solid piece of metal designed to lift the ball.

2. The Shaft

There are two versions of the component the golf club shaft. The older style, for traditional version, known as the metal and the newer, normally more flexible black version, which is the graphite design. The metal shaft is heavier and designed to be very stiff. Some players prefer this they believe it gives the player more control over the swing.

The metal shaft is usually very stiff and some players believe this allows them more control The graphite shaft flexes more during the swing and this can give some more skilled golfers better distance on their shots and possibility more accuracy.

There is traditionally more metal shafts based clubs than graphite versions available, out there. As the advances in technology lower the costs, and players try the graphite shaft it becomes and more popular. I think we can see less metal versions in the future.

3. The Golf club Grip

At the top of the shaft where you hand on to the club, has a grip. The grip has not changed for many years. It has traditionally been a simple rubber grip pieced with small holes to allow it to breath.

Very little focus has been placed on the part of the club, but in recent years, a thicker stronger grip is becoming available. With any grip, as soon as it becomes worn smooth it needs to be replaced to ensure you have a good hold on the club, for safety.

The golf components are simple overall. At the same time advances in technology and design for those who have a passion for the game, will bring need materials and design versions to be tested by the pros and hopefully result in an improved more enjoyable game.

Why to Avoid Golfing without a Warm-up

by Greg Hansward

A warm-up is very important to playing golf. Golfing professionals indicate that is one step any golfer cannot afford to forego. You may be in great shape, play often and are ready to step up to the tee immediately. But, are a couple practice swings sufficient before teeing off? Although you may be mentally ready to play as soon as you step onto the course, you also may find yourself playing a poor game or, even worse, injured because you skipped a quality warm-up.

Cars from a few years ago always required a brief warm up before heading out to the highway. You started the engine, allowed the fluids to circulate and then knew the car was ready to go. Your body is no different. No, there have been no major upgrades over the past several years. Your body still needs time to warm up. In fact, it becomes even more essential as you age.

What exactly is a good warm-up, then? You do not have to hit an entire bucket of balls on the driving range, nor do you need to do a full workout of stretches. Just take time to hit at least a dozen balls but do so starting slowly. Start by hitting a few short range shots, gradually working up to longer drives.

Some gentle exercising is always a good idea, even if it consists of a brief walk. The reason so many people have heart attacks on the green is because they did not prepare their bodies for the physical demands of golf. Even if you are playing a casual, recreational game, golf places some strenuous physical demands on your body.

If you do not play regularly, a warm-up of at least a half hour to an hour would be proper before the golfing begins and you tee off. This requires you to arrive early or doing your warm up somewhere other than the course, perhaps at home. However, you may find that the driving range at the course is the best place to warm-up prior to a game. Some golfers spend some time practicing with training tools before leaving home, then park a good distance from the clubhouse allowing the walk up to serve as part of his or her warm-up.

If you play golf often and are in good physical condition, you may be fine with a shorter warm-up period, but you still should set aside some time for warm-up before making your first swing. If you do not, you may find yourself straining muscles that are not ready for such rigorous use on the course. Not only will pulled muscles hamper the rest of your game, they may also keep you off the course and in the clubhouse much longer than you want.

Some golfers use the warm up period as a time to be alone and concentrate on the upcoming game whereas others like to warm up friends and partners. Either way, it is essential that you set aside some time beforehand to prepare for the game. You will play better at this game and future tee times!

Often it derives from bad habits you easily get into the habit of doing. These habits may be comparatively minor like adjusting your grip or not squaring yourself to the ball properly or some bigger mistakes like coming across the top. Having your swing checked might save you lots of aggravation on the track and assist you in shaving some shots off your round. Get the best Clubs

Another example is having clubs that the loft does not fit your swing. If the loft is not correct you will not consistently hit the ball on the “sweet spot” and you will not get everything you can out of your club and you will be very inconsistent on the course.

Find the Proper Ball Many golfers look at the pros such as Tiger Woods and they think to themselves if they just used the same ball as he does their ball would probably go much further. Nothing could be further from the truth. In fact there are very few golfers that should even consider using the exact ball as Tiger. This is because you cannot copy the same club head speed as he has, there for the compression on the ball is not the same. So find a ball that actually works with the club head speed that you generate. This will help improve your golf game as you will begin to learn what distance your ball travels and what type of action you get on your ball. Take Strokes off of Your Golf Score

by Jackal Hamilton

Many golf players of all skill levels, from amateur to professional, have the urge to drop golf scores by one or two strokes. It is an endless cycle of time-consuming practice hours, driving on the range, and practice sessions spent perfecting the swing or practicing with one or two particular golf clubs. For golf enthusiasts seeking useful guidance, there are several recommendations you can follow to improve your golf score.

Developing a good rhythm in terms of swinging and playing is one of the most important rules of golf. Many golfers who develop a bad swing or other unfortunate habits on the golf course do so mostly because they are too hasty and they rush themselves. Take your time and work on developing a good pace in swinging to decrease the number of wayward shots and poor strikes.

Another tip that a golfer can use to lower their score is to change their putter to something suited for their tempo. Too often, golfers will choose a putter that can be too heavy or not heavy enough for their putting stroke. This can lead to a poor regulation of power, making the putt go offline or too short or long. Many golfers have found that the use of a belly putter, with a shaft that is long enough to poke the golfer in the stomach, is another way to balance the weight of a club and regulate the putting stroke better.

A third tip you can use to reduce your golf score is to play with the proper tees. Many starting golfers see better results from the use of a tee that sets the ball higher off of the ground. This can help the golfer who needs that extra height to practice hitting the ball cleanly and without the threat of grounding the club into the turf.

The fourth piece of advice that can be given to a golfer in search of shaving a stroke or two from their game is to scout the golf course before your golf game. Even if you just look at the golf course map, this way you can identify the hardest holes and try to come up with a strategy that can help you stay out of the hazard and in play, thus reducing your score.

The last piece of advice that can be considered in shaving some strokes off your game is to relax when you are out there, enjoy the game and the golf course when you are out there. Many golfers tend to play with a competitive mind set making them play poorly. Tons of golfers will tell you that having a clear head and positive thinking, can help you more with your golf game than any other piece of advice out there.

How to hit a golf ball correctly

by Theodore Finkley

It doesn’t matter what sport your involved in,there is a feeling of great satisfaction and pride that comes from making good contact. In order to hit the ball solidly and consistently, the only way to accomplish this is through a lot of practice.

The best time to practice is after a round. All the shots that ended up in the wrong spot for you during the round is fresh in your mind, and your body and mind are still in game mode.Consistently working on the shots that gave you trouble on the course, will help greatly.

Practice mats also vary in diverse sizes and are similar to the driving mats. The practice nets are fashioned to help you amend your swings, drives and chip shots. They can be folded so that they do not take up a ton of space and are available with miscellaneous sized openings.

You can improve your putting even in your living room or at the office. You need a putter, a little space and you can get putting aids that you can attach to the head of the putter. The putting aids can help you center the stroke until you are comfortable enough with hitting the ball with the center of the putter.

When at the practice range, hit 10-20 balls each session. Then take a break so you can avoid mental and physical exhaustion. You can use this time to go over what you’ve learned.

More than one golfer suffering from a horrible slice has improved his golf swing just by learning how to grip his golf clubs correctly. One more thing you should think about - buy some old style blade irons and practice with them.

If you want to purchase a golf training aid you should know that there are several systems available on the market. The training aid includes the driving mat, the practice mat, the practice net, the swing training aid and of course the golf putting aid. Most of these aids are small enough to fit in a bag and all of them want to help you improve your golfing skills.

Whether you are already a die hard golfer or are a beginner, you want to learn how you can get the best golf swing so that you can start having fun and enjoying the game.

Take a look at the club head for signs of wear before you buy it. A worn spot on the club head where the ball strikes will prevent the ball from making good contact and affect the performance. Grooves that have defined edges on the face of the club show that the club still has some life left in it and has not been completely worn out.

If the shaft of the clubs have worn areas or indentations, this could weaken the club and cause it to break. Look down the shaft length wise and see if it has been bent or twisted. You also want to test the torque of the shaft by twisting the grip and the head in opposite directions. If the torque is solid, you should not be able to twist it far. If you can easily twist it, then it’s a sign of weakness in the shaft and you should avoid that club.

When you select a used club, you need to decide between steel or graphite. Graphite clubs tend to be lighter than steel and it really depends on your style of play. You also might want to re-grip the used clubs. You can re-grip them yourself for 10 to 15 bucks per club.

Clubs made from aluminum are nice and light, but they are more susceptible to wear and might not be the better choice when buying used clubs. Metal is more solid than most of the alloy clubs and will probably be in a better used condition.

Golf Options: Hit Fairways Your Way

Golf Options: Hit Fairways Your Way is a new and innovative approach to golf instruction. The reason that this book was written was to teach golfers (exactly as the title states) that they have options when they swing the golf club.

Not everyone has the same swing. Therefore, the same thing will not work for everyone. Golfers will have much more success if they experiment and fine tune their swing.

For example, many recreational golfers don’t realize that they may have much more success if they moved the ball up in their stance a few inches at setup, or they took a weak grip versus a strong grip. They don’t know these things because usually, they just pick up the club and swing.

This book is about laying out the options that golfers have, and the results that they can expect with various changes that they make to their setup. Many golfers use this book to help cure a slice, or to regain lost distance.

24 “Dead Solid Perfect” Golf Marketing Lessons To Insure Your Tournament Is The Best It Can Be, Promoted The Best Way It Can Be!

From: Mike Mucci

Dear Friend in Golf,

I just got off the phone with one of my clients I consult with who is promoting a regional golf tournament concept for Charity organizations.

In our discussion, I stopped him from making a terrible mistake with the tournaments Unique Selling Proposition that would have cut the sponsorship opportunities for his tournament in half - it was a violation of one of the most important tournament marketing principles.

I helped him create a USP that would enhance the promotion of his tournament, not diminish it.

Why do I tell you this? To brag?

Golf Swing Teaching Aids

Golf swing teaching aids are useful in helping new golfers master their golf swing. But before spending the money on golf swing teaching aids, it is important to learn your strengths and weakness before buying golf aids.

There are plenty of golf swing teaching aids on the market these days. One of these is the speed radar. It basically uses a Doppler radar to measure the speed of your golf ball. These devices sits on the ground directly in front of you and is used in many golf schools.

Doppler radars can determine your golf ball speed quite reliably and is very consistent. Another type of golf swing teaching aid are impact labels. These stick on your golf club and when your club hits the ball, it leaves a mark telling you the contact points made. This allows you to know whether you are hitting the golf ball center or off center.

Sports Improvement-No More Freak Outs

by Sara Mendez

Every athlete, in every sport gets nervous before a game or has a game day superstition. Some of the questions running through their minds are, what if we lose, what if I mess up, or worse injury! These thoughts become so powerful and can take over a players mind. No one wants to say they had a bad game. Everyone wants to be at their physical and mental best while performing, however sometimes this is difficult to achieve without help.

No one wants to think negative things about themselves. We all want to be in peak condition as athletes. For instance, it is hard for a basketball player to be told they are too short or not fast enough. We begin to focus on those negative things. Being short can’t be fixed, not everyone who plays basketball is seven foot. By learning how to play the game can make you invaluable even if you are short. If you are not fast enough, this can be fixed through both physical and mental workouts. First you need to figure out mentally why you can not run fast. It could be anything from a forgotten memory to a learned behavior. Maybe your dad always told you that you were too slow and to move faster. After a while you begin to feel this way and develop a mental block. This is a learned behavior and over coming this belief can be difficult alone.

Focus, an athlete needs to be in the zone. A baseball player doesn’t hit 5 homeruns in a row because he was lucky, he is focused. If you are not in that zone, it is hard to perform at your best. Maybe there is pressure from coaches, fans or parents, a loud negative person in the stands, or maybe you simply psyched yourself out before the game even started by worrying you would have a bad game. As you can see, many things can cause you to lose the zone. Identifying what makes you lose focus, and learning new tricks to keep you in the zone. You can become unstoppable, not lucky, but focused.

A sport such as swimming ultimately is all about skill. It is not about who got a good call, but who is simply better, which it true of many other sports. If you can learn to improve your skill level mentally, the physical improvements will fall into place allowing you to create your own luck. By learning different cues mentally, you can teach your body how to be on point and improve your skill level. When your mind has powerful successes they become easier to recreate during the game.

The ultimate athlete loves himself, his team and the game. This love builds a better, stronger, more valuable athlete. If you are constantly worrying about how you did in the game or how bad your team mate is then you are doing yourself, your team and the sport a disservice. If you were always told how bad you are at something or how if you teammate would have just passed you the ball you could have won, you are allowing these experiences to take over the game. You are no longer the best you can be. Once you learn how to deal with these feelings and memories, you will become an amazing athlete.

Sure you can work out at the gym for hours on end to improve your skills, or you can try to focus on something else during the game, but you have not really dealt with the issue. Hypnosis is one way of achieving all of these things and more. It will identify what skills you have and how to develop them without negative energy. You can also learn how to focus your energy on the game instead of an obnoxious fan. All of these things are distractions and they can hinder your progress as an athlete. While under hypnosis your mind is more relaxed and open to suggestions, you will not longer have the feeling you are sabotaging yourself.

Sports, whether they are for a living or entertainment should above all be fun. You should not have to experience a worthless, anxious, or distracted feeling before you begin a sport. Sure you can try other things but there is no reason to try those things when there is one blanket treatment for it. You know what works for you and your lifestyle, make your choice, but make an informed choice.

The Poker Explosion

by Robo Harrier

From an image of shady characters in smoke filled rooms, poker has emerged as a booming industry. The professional player was seen as a con man, or worse. Now he is an ambassador for his craft, an endorser of products, and a celebrity.

This has come about from three main events. These events have change the course of poker in the world, and made it into a huge industry. As this story unfolds you will see how amazing all this has been.

Planet poker, in 1998, becomes the first online poker room. Casinos had been online since 1994. With people playing poker in their living room the evolution starts.

Televised poker has been around since the late seventies. This was a one hour show, once a year, showing the WSOP Main Event. Not many people were watching.

The second key event that happened actually happened first. A camera (pocket cam) is placed so that the audience can see the players’ hole cards. This device would be a major contributor to the poker explosion.

In 2002 a couple of things happened. The WPT (World Poker Tour) was formed and held tournaments that were recorded and aired the next year. These recording used the pocket cam as a key tool in their shows. Earlier in 2002, ESPN used the pocket cam for the first time on U.S. television while covering the WSOP.

The use of the pocket cam gets more people watching. The fact that the viewer can see what the players have increases the drama, and exposes the strategies. ESPN decides to show a lot more of the event the following year.

ESPN decides that they will get coverage from every day. They will have pocket cam on the feature table. They also start profiling the players.

With increased coverage the whole world sees Chris Moneymaker fight his way through the field of 839 to win the event. He outplayed many of the best players in the world in the last two tables. But, Chris is just an online player, having earned his $10,000 entry from a $40 satellite event.

When an unknown internet player turns $40 in $2.5 million, interest in poker explodes. Everyone wants to get involved in poker. The poker industry takes off.

The pocket cam got people watching on television. The internet made poker available to everyone. Chris Moneymaker gives us all hope that maybe we can be the world champ.

Golfing Your Way Out of the Sand Trap

by Greg Hansward

A golfer’s nightmare - You have somehow eliminated the slice you have been struggling with, you have the perfect swing and the perfect stance. Yet, despite doing it all right on paper, you still find yourself occasionally behind the largest tree on the course of standing in knee-deep grass of the course sand trap.

Think about it, though. If the golf course was smooth with no sand, water or bunkers, golfing would soon become boring for even the most committed golfer. Obstacles make the game challenging and a far better game. You can learn to appreciate these traps much more once you know how to get out of the situations they cause for golf players on a course in Spain or at their local club.

You have a couple options when you find your golf ball hiding behind a large tree. Obviously, one option is to try to bore a hole through the tree so your ball can slide through, but this probably will not pass the approval of course maintenance as well as the other golfers.

Rather, many golfers choose to sacrifice one putt in order to get the ball in a better position. Whether or not this is the better option depends on how much the golfer is willing to risk for that one play and also on the golfer??s ability. A ricochet shot is occasionally an option if there is another tree nearby and in the right position, but in reality the result is far too uncontrollable. There is no way to know how the ball will react once it hits the tree trunk and layered bark.

The best choice is to practice your curve ball before you find yourself at this point. When the time comes, you will be ready to get the ball back on course, save your game and also impress your fellow golfers.

Sand on the golf course presents an entirely new problem for golfers. Many tryout the “whack and see” approach by simply pulling out his or her sand wedge, whacking the ball and then watching the sand fly as they hope the golf ball also took flight.

Consistency is the key to overall success when it comes to golf, and this also goes for those times when you need to get out of the sand box. Simply put, sand is a real problem when trying to get the golf ball back onto the fairway. You will have trouble controlling the putt from the sand trap since golf balls do not roll well in sand.

The best way to get out of a sand trap is to use the wedge and get enough loft to clear the top of the sand trap, though less loft is typically much easier to control. So, you will want to choose your golf wedge carefully.

Ultimately, regardless of whether you are behind a tree, in a sand trap or facing another obstacle, choosing the best club, properly setting up your shot and controlling the ball are the best steps you can take to get back onto the open green.

Golf Training for Success

Golf Training for Success

How does anyone become better at what they do?

Anyone knows that get to the top of your game you need practice and the more you want to succeed the more you will need to practice.

Vijay Singh has been known as the golfer who practices more than any other.
He has stated that he might not be the most talented golfer in the world but his dedication to practice more often and longer than most others enabled him to succeed beyond the expectations of many people.

Vijay got to the top of his game by practicing from morning until night.

Before tournaments here would be practicing for hours.

Michael Campbell won the US Open and in his early years when he was a youngster he would practice so much in his yard he would literally wear the clubs out and have to replace them for more practice.

The more you practice the higher the probability that you will naturally make the right moves without having to think about the actions you are taking.
And the less you have to think about your stance, swing and so on, the more likely you are to hit the sweet spot more often and get the ball sailing through the air as though Tiger has just hit it.

Practice can be both cheap and convenient with driving ranges allowing you to hit a bucket full of golf balls to naturally program your mind and body to perform better once you hit the course in the weekend.

Here’s the fun part - while your mates are watching television during the week you can sneak off to the driving range and sharpen your skills and then trounce them on the weekend and they will be none the wiser where your newfound skills have been honed.

Golf Weather - Compensating for Wind

by Ray Walberg

There are many factors to consider before you choose a club and take a swing. One of the biggest factors to consider is golf weather. While a wet course will make your ball roll slower and a dry course will have the opposite affect, it?s really the wind that will have the biggest impact on your round of golf. Wind affects the direction your ball will go after you hit it and even after it touches the ground. Here are some basic golf tips for helping you compensate for wind.

The majority of golfers are right handed so we’ll go over this as if you are right handed. If you are left handed then you?ll need to adjust accordingly.

The first thing to do is determine which way the wind is blowing. If the wind is blowing on your back then you?ll strike the ball softer than usual especially if it is a brisk wind. This can certainly work in your favor especially on a drive. Hit the ball high and let the wind do most of the work. If the wind is blowing directly into the front of you then the opposite is the case; strike the ball harder than you normally would to counteract the force of the wind.

What if the wind is blowing from the right or left? If you don?t compensate then you?ll find that your shot will fall to the left or right of your intended target and might end up rolling completely off the green. For example, if your hole is 150 yards from the tee box and the flag is in the middle of the green you?ll need to alter your stance to compensate. Depending on the amount of wind you may also need to keep the ball low so the trajectory is not as greatly impacted. If the wind is blowing severely then you may consider choosing a club bigger than usual; a five or six iron instead of a seven iron.

Usually a breeze won?t have a huge impact on putting since the wind is less powerful near the ground but this isn?t always the case. If you are on a rise or the wind is very powerful then you?ll also need to compensate on these shots.

To play golf you have to take into account a number of factors and wind is one that shouldn?t be underestimated. Next time there is a windy day, don?t skip on golfing but take advantage of it and practice on the driving range so you know how to compensate.

Retrain Your Mental Approach to the Game

Retrain Your Mental Approach to the Game

Making changes to your mental approach can see you take control of your game and slash your score faster than you might imagine.

In most professional sports, psychologists are an integral part of the coaching team and golf is quite possibly the sport that can benefit from mind power more than any other.

It is more than just self-doubt and negative thought that you need to eliminate from your game.
You need to focus purely on the shot you are about to play.

There should be no thoughts about the last hole or the next hole.

You shouldn’t be focusing on the water hole.
How many times have you hit the ball into the water knowing that the ball would never have landed there if it were grass?

It is almost as if we will it into the water sometimes.
This happens when you are so focused on the water that you can’t play the shot, as you should.

This can be likened to a learner driver in a car when they are having their first lessons and find that they are veering towards cars that are driving beside them simply because they are so focused on those cars rather than where they are going.

If you believe you are going to slice the ball you are bound to do so.

If that bunker is constantly on your mind you can be sure that the next shot you play will be from the sand.

You need to train yourself to play one shot at a time and only give thought to that one shot.
Nothing else matters - Not what your competition is doing or what your score is at that stage of the game.

Thinking about a bad score will only make matters worse.
No matter how bad the round might be there are still opportunities to make the most of the remaining holes and that’s all that matters.

Are the Best Ladies Golf Clubs What You Need

by Dave Joa

Finding ladies golf clubs to fit any female golfer has always been a difficult task and although more women are now playing golf it does not seem to get any easier.

Because all of us, both males and females, are human and therefore different than each other, there will always be a problem when trying to find suitable golf equipment.

Ladies Golf Clubs are a Smaller Market

Unfortunately golf clubs are not an exception and the problem becomes even more acute when trying to find suitable clubs for a lady golfer. Mainly this is due to a much smaller market for ladies golf clubs and the fact that development and manufacturing costs of any high specification item continue to be high.

In some cases a woman golfer may be lucky and find that a normal golf club will fit and work perfectly well, but this will be an exception rather than the rule. Usually it is extremely difficult for a women golfer to find suitable clubs, especially when they are trying to put a whole golf set together.

Women Are Different Than Men

Because men and women are physically different the needs of the woman golfer are always going to be different too and golf clubs are no exception to this requirement. Lady golfers may find that most clubs are too stiff or in more extreme cases maybe too flexible and often women golfers will find a golf club designed for men will not be right for their swing action.

If the golf clubs are lighter then they are more likely to be suitable for ladies as the increased swing speed will longer shots, but the lady may find that there is a slight loss of the control that would be available from a heavier club. The actual length of the club is also important as women are normally shorter than men and only a shorter ladies club will bring the comfort required for a better fit.

It always pats to test the exact fit and comfort factor of potential golf clubs before making a final choice. For ladies this may mean a lot of research and testing before they get the clubs that they want.

Try Custom Build or Specialist Female Clubs

Today many golf clubs for females are purpose built for all types of clubs, including irons, woods and wedges using different designs and incorporating different materials to help the woman golfer. The general trend here is for lighter clubs that will help ladies improve their game and therefore enable them to progress more easily.

When a woman golfer improves her game her demands for a better club will mean that getting a better fitting and more comfortable golf club become greater. This requirement may mean that the only solution to getting the perfect clubs is to seek out custom ladies golf clubs to ensure the best fit.

There will be additional costs to pay for ladies golf clubs that are custom made. The upside of this though is that the golf game of anyone that makes this bigger investment is likely to improve quicker and to a higher level and that will make it worthwhile.

Fortunately there are now more specialized womens golf clubs on the market than there used to be, but it is still not as easy as it should be for a lady golfer to find the right clubs to suit her style and level of golf.

Never Give Up Searching

Bad equipment will hold back any lady golfer so it is important to find what you really need as soon as you can and getting the right equipment is essential if you want to progress.

The Downhill Lie: A Hacker’s Return to a Ruinous Sport - Written by Carl Hiaasen

About the Book:

Ever wonder how to retrieve a sunken golf cart from a snake-infested lake? Or which club in your bag is best suited for combat against a horde of rats? If these and other sporting questions are gnawing at you, The Downhill Lie, Carl Hiaasen’s hilarious confessional about returning to the fairways after a thirty-two-year absence, is definitely the book for you.

Originally drawn to the game by his father, Carl wisely quit golfing in 1973, when “Richard Nixon was hunkered down like a meth-crazed badger in the White House, Hank Aaron was one dinger shy of Babe Ruth’s all-time home run record, and The Who had just released Quadrophenia.” But some ambitions refuse to die, and as the years-and memories of shanked 7-irons-faded, it dawned on Carl that there might be one thing in life he could do better in middle age than he could as a youth. So gradually he ventured back to the dreaded driving range, this time as the father of a five-year-old son-and also as a grandfather.

“What possesses a man to return in midlife to a game at which he’d never excelled in his prime, and which in fact had dealt him mostly failure, angst and exasperation? Here’s why I did it: I’m one sick bastard.”

And thus we have Carl’s foray into a world of baffling titanium technology, high-priced golf gurus, bizarre infomercial gimmicks and the mind-bending phenomenon of Tiger Woods; a maddening universe of hooks and slices where Carl ultimately-and foolishly-agrees to compete in a country-club tournament against players who can actually hit the ball. “That’s the secret of the sport’s infernal seduction,” he writes. “It surrenders just enough good shots to let you talk yourself out of quitting.”

Hiaasen’s chronicle of his shaky return to this bedeviling pastime and the ensuing demolition of his self-esteem-culminating with the savage 45-hole tournament-will have you rolling with laughter. Yet the bittersweet memories of playing with his own father and the glow he feels when watching his own young son belt the ball down the fairway will also touch your heart. Forget Tiger, Phil and Ernie. If you want to understand the true lure of golf, turn to Carl Hiaasen, who has written an extraordinary book for the ordinary hacker.
