Work Out Knowhow - Relieving Your Aching Muscles

by Lena Hellsten

If you’ve been spending a lot of time at the gym it’s likely that you will experience aching muscles afterwards. This normal muscle soreness manifests itself as a dull but localized pain in the worked muscles that doesn’t limit range of motion but may be accompanied by tightness and temporary loss of strength.

On a cellular level, what is happening is that because of this over training, the muscle fiber has been torn and this makes the muscle cells release content. This content are attracting inflammatory cells, which then releases chemicals that cause irritation to the nerve fibers and creates pain.

You should always aim to work out in a way that doesn’t give you muscle soreness, but sometimes it just happens anyway. If your muscles ache it’s good to know that there are a few things you can do about it.

A stretch after your work out is essential to lower the risk of muscle soreness. This makes the blood and lymphatic circulation flow with more ease, which prevents tightness and stiffness in the muscles.

Another great way to give relief, is to give the sore muscle a gentle massage. Start with a light pressure and increase it to more strength and depth. This will help the circulation to more efficiently get rid of the inflammatory cells which causes the pain.

After a good work out, it’s a great idea to have some time in a sauna or to have a hot bath. The heat makes the circulation more efficient and it releases tension in your body.

It’s also a good idea to do some type of light exercise, such as walking or swimming to prevent stiffness in the muscles and also to get the circulation going.

By listening to your body and by doing a proper warm up before you start lifting weights you can gain muscles without the bitter soreness afterwards. The warming up before working out is essential because it makes the blood flow and makes them loose and limb.

Muscle soreness works as a great reminder for you to not work out as hard next time. Be easy on your body and let it guide you into finding the amount of pounds to lift that’s just right for you and you will build you muscles fast and easily.

Poker Appeals To The Masses

by Robert Eagle

Poker is a card game that has been around for centuries. In every era of movies and books, it can be found. Variations of poker have manifested throughout time.

The different basic variations of poker are stud, draw, and community poker. With stud and draw, each player holds all the cards. In community poker, the dealer or table holds the last usable cards.

In stud poker, depending upon which type is being played, the dealer passes out the cards either face down or face up. Stud used to be played with either three or five cards but it is only five cards now. This division of poker dates back to the 1700’s when 3-card stud was popular.

Five-card stud, the most common variant, is where the players are dealt two cards face down and the first bet is made. A bet is made after each up card is dealt thereafter. The last bet, or fifth street, is made once all the fifth cards have been dealt.

Recently, the most popular form of stud has become seven-card stud. Casinos first made seven-card stud popular and now it is available online as well. This version of poker is a fun mixture of stud and community poker.

Community poker is called so because the first two cards are dealt to each player in turn and then the rest of the cards are shared by the players. On the table, or the window, the final three or five cards are dealt. The players try to use these cards to create winning hands.

Bluffing becomes the most essential part of the game with community poker. Due to being able to see what cards everyone can use, the player has a good idea of what everyone else has. Texas Hold’em has become the most popular version of community poker.

Texas Hold’em has been made popular by Las Vegas casinos, which have begun tournaments that are televised. This version of poker is seven-card stud that continues until only one player is left standing. This player wins the entire pot of money lost by all the other players.

The players in regular versions of poker have the option to opt out of the game and walk away with some winnings. Texas Hold’em has a stipulation where you cannot leave the game until you have been eliminated thus losing all of your initial money. The aspect of losing everything is what makes this version so exciting.

Draw poker is the last type of poker. The players are dealt five face down cards in draw poker; in hopes of creating a winning hand, the player then can exchange a number of their cards for new ones. A player draws their new cards where the chance of winning is up to luck, which makes draw the hardest type of poker, as it does not rely mostly upon talent;.

Poker has become one of the most popular gambling games in the nation. The fun of the game is trying to fool your fellow players into thinking you have a better hand than you do, or to get dealt that wonderful hand that will beat all others. No matter what your hand, the best part of poker is the bluffing.

Golf Tips For Beginners

Golf Tips For Beginners: It’s All In The Mind

Many books and other sources of golf tips for beginners cover the technical aspects of playing golf very thoroughly, but do not prepare the new player for the mental side of the game. Golf can be a very frustrating sport and one where your game (and your reputation) can go rapidly downhill if you do not master the skill of anger management and keeping a positive mindset.

The most important thing to learn is to accept any bad shots and move on. This sounds simple on paper or on your computer screen but when you are out there on the course it is easy to start up with the ‘if onlys’, going over other ways that you could have played the shot, or even wanting to take it again with another ball just to prove that you could have done better. This is not good for your game and is irritating for your playing partners. Save it for your next practice session.

Although your game will improve a great deal with practice and a good coach, some people simply have more strength or flexibility in their bodies than others. It can be frustrating to see other people practicing less and playing better but that’s life. Try to concentrate on your own game without constantly comparing yourself with others.

If you suffer from arthritis or other stiffness in the back or shoulders, it may be difficult to learn a good straight swing. Certain exercises that involve slow movement are very good for increasing flexibility and awareness of the body. These include tai chi, qi gung and yoga. Tai chi, which is often taught as a martial art, is popular with men.

It can be very useful to experiment with your game when you are beginning, and later in your golfing career too. You can decide on an approach that you will take for a particular round, stick to it all through and then evaluate where it was useful and where it was not. For example you might decide to play safer shots all around the course, and you might find that this worked well on some particular holes, but not others. This is very useful information and will teach you a lot about your own game as well as how to play different holes and courses.

Visualization is another mental technique that can have a positive effect on your game. With every shot, try visualizing the ball arriving on the green and rolling straight into the hole. Accept bad shots and let them go, focusing on the positive. Think of the advancements you have made in your game, or what you can learn from that shot, or just enjoy the physical activity of playing golf.

While it is possible of course to improve your game, it will never be perfect. If you are a perfection-seeker then golf will either teach you a different mindset or frustrate you to the edge of a coronary. The perfect game of golf, after all, would be 18 holes-in-one. Did you ever hear of anybody doing that?

Most players are able to handle a bad shot or a bad round but a bad run where your play seems to have deteriorated for no clear reason can be difficult to deal with. Usually this is just chance and things will soon turn around for you. If not, you could try taking a few lessons. This is likely to help in the long term although experimenting with new playing styles could have a negative effect at first.

Understanding your mindset and the emotions that a good or bad game arouses is as important as taking in any technical golf tips for beginners.

Poker Greats

by Reincarnated Stu Unger

The use of pocket cam on televised poker broadcasts has had a huge impact on the game. Television coverage exploded, and poker pros became celebrities. Let’s see who some of these poker stars are.

Daniel Negreanu is one of the most personable players in the pro game. He is best known for his uncanny hand reading skills. He has three WSOP bracelets.

Barry Greenstein is the “robin hood of poker”. He donates 100% of his tournament winnings to charity. He has two WSOP bracelets to his name.

Made famous for his outrageous verbiage at the tables, Mike “the mouth” Matusow is great for televised poker. His outrageous behavior, and intense passion creates drama for the viewers. He has two WSOP titles in his resume.

Phil Ivey is perhaps the best of them all. Highly respected by his peers Phil is an accomplished player at all the games. Along with his 5 WSOP bracelets, he reportedly won 16.6 million from Andy Beal in three days of heads up play.

Doyle Brunson is one of the founding fathers of the success of tournament poker. I believe he has played in every one of the WSOP Main Events. His has an impressive 10 bracelets to go along with two WSOP Main Event wins.

Johnny Chan almost won Three WSOP Main Events in a row. His two Main Event titles and 10 total bracelets is an incredible feat. His role in the film Rounders, just added to the legend he had quickly become.

Another WSOP Main Event winner is Scotty “win” Nguyen. He won the 1998 title. On the final hand he warned his opponent, “you call this, and it’s all over baby”, of course, the call was made and the rest is history.

Phil “the poker brat” is known more for his famous tantrums than his incredible WSOP record. He has won a record eleven bracelets and one world championship. His outrageous outbursts have been caught on tape, and are legendary.

You can’t leave poker legend Stu Unger off this kind of list. Possibly the best tournament poker player ever, his record is almost statistically impossible. In the 30 or so major ($5,000 and up) events he played in, he won an astounding 10 titles. WOW!!

This is only a few of the poker greats, there are too many to list them all. Poker players in the past were legends in a small community. Know they are main stream super stars. What a change.

What to Play, Online Poker

by Jennifer Chesty

Now, you’ve made up your mind, you will play some internet poker. You need to pick a game to play. Only looking at Texas holdem, let’s see what you have to choose from.

First there is the very popular multi table tournament. Here, you sit down with a group of players, maybe even thousands, and play until you lose all your chips or eliminate all other players. These can take hours to complete. The tournament lobby will tell you when tournaments will start.

A slight variation from the multi table event is the re buy/add on tournament. This plays exactly like the multi table tournaments except for the beginning. For a pre determined amount of time, typically one hour, the players can buy more chips any time they have an equal amount, or less, than the starting stack size. After this time ends, you have a choice to add on more chips one time with any stack that you have. Then it’s back to the multi table rules.

Most poker rooms offer free rolls. These are usually multi table events. They will offer cash prizes, even though there are no entry fees!

Players often would like to play in big events but can’t afford to risk the entry fee. This is where the satellite tournament comes in. We can suppose you want to play in a $1,000 tournament. You might find a satellite for this bigger event. Perhaps one costing $50 would be affordable for you. If one hundred players were in this satellite, five players would win the $1,000 entry for the big one you wanted to play.

Sit and Go tournaments are very common now in online poker rooms. These are mainly single table tournaments, ranging from two to ten players. They do not have an official starting time, but instead begin when the right amount of players have entered.

A combination, of sorts, is the multi table sit and go. Here, at least two tables, could be many more, are used. The tournament will have an exact number of players and start when the entries fill. After that, this will be just like a multi table event.

The poker we all play at home is the ring game. This is where you put your cash on the table and play for it. The three main formats are, no limit, pot limit, and limit.

A more unique event that has shown on TV recently, is the heads up tournament. The idea is simple, you have a draw, like a tennis tournament, with let’s say 64 players. Opponents play heads up matches with the winners advancing. This continues, cutting the field in half each round, until you have a champion.

In addition to Texas holdem, five card draw, razz, stud games and more are offered.

That’s a lot of options. Try to make sure you have a good idea of the differences in these various games. It will be very frustrating to lose because you played wrong for the game you chose.
